Hi

I posted a few months ago about my friend possibly coming to WDW with us in November. However, we said no. She text me today and said she is booking her son who is 8 and will be 9 in September 14 nights to Kenya. 4 days safari. Now I am a little worried. For a few reasons. One she has never been away herself before other than this country and its Kenya????

My friends went for a honeymoon back in 99. I dont know if it still is the same. They would not go back. They had regular power cuts mainly due to riots that were outside the hotel. A few nights it was really bad. Fires going, locals running to thier hotel for safety, police no electricity for a day or so. She hated it and never felt so scared in her life.

I really dont know what to tell my friend. My first reaction was your kidding. The problem I have. My friend is not really clued up shall I say. She doesnt watch the news or know about other peoples cultures etc. I am a little worried that she doesnt actually know what she is letting herself in for. Before I frown and send a text. What do you think? Is it as bad as my friend made out still?

:thumbsup2

thank you will have a look and let her know :goodvibes

Michelle - thousands of travellers enjoy kenya every year trouble-free, outside of nairobi its a fairly safe destination. tell your friend to look out exodus and explore, they both do specific family tours with a mix of kids and parents, they have good reputations and will only go to safer tourist areas. I travelled in kenya by myself years ago and out of Nairobi it really is a friendly country and as long as they use their common sense and don't wander around by themselves at night they will have, what will probably be, the best holiday ever.

Hi Carol

Thanks I will pass on the information. I think of her as my sister and I always worry about her. I will def get her to look into those tours. :goodvibes

I went to Kenya in 1999 and had none of the experiences that your friends had. We spent only 3 nights in Nairobi itself and the rest on safari, but even in Nairobi we were fine.

Using common sense, we did travel about the city ourselves (me about 20, and my dad) and had no more issues than we'd had in other big cities (including London). That said, we were both (my dad especially) seasoned travelers. However, I think that, as Carol said, she and her son can have an amazing (and safe) time, especially if they join a tour group.
