Well, this weekend is the FIRST SATURDAY IN MAY, also known as Derby Day!
This has always been a big event for as long as I remember, having grown up in the Louisville area (in fact, I was born in Louisville).
This Saturday, at 6 pm EST, the running of the 132nd Kentucky Derby will occur. A large field this year of 20 horses, so anything can happen. The selection of the post positions will be held today, and will be broadcast on ESPN from 5 - 6 pm EST. Also, you can follow it here: http://www.kentuckyderby.com/2006/
Also, this is a GREAT site for all kinds of info about the Derby, the entrants, trainers, owners, jockeys, and the History of the Greatest Horserace in the World. http://www.kentuckyderby.com/2006/index_home.html
So, who's your pick?
I'm going with Lawyer Ron. He has won his last 6 races, including a very impressive, easy win in the Arkansas Derby last month. He's big and strong, and if he stays out of traffic, I think he'll win.
