I want to go here on our last full day before flying home on Monday. I think this will be a great opportunity for self and DH and DS(17). I want to do the standard tour plus the Cape Canaveral Then and Now ($22 extra). Does that sound fun? Anyone do the Kennedy Space Tour?
The Imax movie(s). There are two theatres.....do you get to choose which movie to see or do you get to see both (which I doubt)...........
thanks!!!:bounce: :Pinkbounc :bounce:  :wave2: :chat:

We visited last summer. We purchased a ticket that included both IMAX shows, the museum type buildings, and the tour. It was great - more than we could do in a day! The museum that is not on the same grounds has great simulators if you can take that stuff - my boys were surprised by the reality and got sick.

We're going for a day in May and have scheduled to have lunch with an astronaut - my 16 year old DD is really excited.

Hi, how was you lunch with the astronaut. We are thinking of doing this in August with our 2 DS aged 12 & 8, do you think they will enjoy it - we haven't been to KSC for 10 years so I am sure that we will notice alot of changes

Yes, tell me (us) how the "lunch with an Astronaut" went.
How many do they serve at this lunch? Intimate lunch for your family? or 35 people? sit down service? Buffet style?
curious.
thanks!
Hope your trip is fun!!! share when you return!! (hopefully by June 18 ) ---I leave June 19....

Sorry it took me so long to reply - we got home late on 5/31 and I was at work (long hours) for the rest of the week.

We had lunch with astronaut Bob Springer on Saturday 5/29. There were probably 25-30 people there. It was served as a buffet - the same menu as is on the official website. He didn't join us until everyone was finished eating. His part of the meal started with a short, humorous film of astronauts trying various things (eating, games) in zero gravity. After that Col. Springer talked about his two trips aboard the space shuttle (15 minutes or so) and answered questions (10 minutes or so). After that he posed for pictures with anyone who wanted one. Everyone got an autographed picture of the space shuttle taking off. It was nice, but you could have asked him questions at the astronaut encounter sessions open to everyone (not sure if he poses for pictures though). All in all, it was nice, but we probably won't do it again.

The bad thing was that we couldn't go on the tour until after the lunch because we arrived at the space center at 9:45 and the tour takes 2 1/2 hours and we would have been late for lunch (12:15). That meant that we went on the tour in the afternoon with the late arrivers. Much more crowded.

Our favorite part of KSC was the tour and the stop at the Saturn 5 rocket center. You take part in a simulated takeoff of Apollo 8 and the lunar landing of Apollo 11. Both well worth the time.

Enjoy your trip!

Thanks for the lunch review! Always nice to get the inside scoop. I may not do it either, but my final !! question to you is should we pre-purchase tour tix at the Orlando Tourist Center or just wait until we get to the Center. and then , What exact tour would you recommend? We want the basic.
Kennedy Space Center Bus Tour: $29? ("standard admission: tour, IMAX movie and enjoy exhibits and show). Is this the tour you took?
(for $6 more, you do the above PLUS Astronaut Hall of Fame and interactive space-flight simulators). Did you do THIS tour?
does everyone have to do the space-flight simulator?

Thanks SO MUCH for the info. :earsgirl:   :Pinkbounc

You can definately spend the whole day at Kennedy Space Center. I toured it over 35 years ago when I was 8 and I am glad our family decided to go there one day. Kennedy Space Center is all about the Shuttle.

We went to Huntsville Alabama's Space Centerand there is more history there. Plus, they have a better Space Camp in Alabama.

'nother quick question: The 2-1/2 hr. tour.....are you on the bus most (all) of the tour? or are you getting on and off fairly often.
I am physically able, just curious............
thanks! :wave2:

We had the ticket that let you on everything - I can't remember the exact name but it was something like the extreme pass (as close as I can remember)!

The tour is mostly on the bus except for the stops where you can stay as long as you want (they assume a specific amount of time at each stop so that adds up to 2 1/2 hours)

Have a great time
