Has anyone ever gone to Kennedy space center? I was wondering if it is doable in about 6 hours? We woud like to take our kids there during our Sept vacation to Disney's Vero Beach Resort. We were thinking of going on our last day, before we head to the airport, and we would only have a 6 hour time frame.

We enjoyed the space center. It wasn't the same kind of enjoyment that you get used to at Disney, but if your kids are old enough it is very educational. In school when they talk about the launches, they will be able to picture where they launch from and what the rockets really look like. all in all a good thing.

We went a few years ago and dedicated 1/2 day for Kennedy Space Center and wish we hadn't been so rushed. We are staying at Vero in October and are going for a day to Kennedy this time. My boys are 13 & 8 so I think they would like more time this year.

I would go just for the experience even if it was a 1/2 day.

I just saw the name of this thread, Kennedy Space Center, and started to chuckle. :lmao: As you are going south on 95, as you enter Florida there is a big billboard that is for Kennedy Space Center, and it says "Just minutes away!" As a lot of you know, it's about 120-180 minutes away from the Florida/Georgia Line. That sign is always a source of amusement for us!!:rotfl2:

KSC is vast - so IMO the best time to visit is when its busy everywhere else !....because KSC swallows crowds really well ! I'd always recommend it on a weekend, or national holiday, over going to one of the main theme parks in Orlando.

If you only have a passing interest in Space travel, then I guess 6 hours might be OK, but there is certainly enough there to take up 2 whole days if your interest is sufficient.

We went to Kennedy first in 1991 and again this past December. The format of the tour had changed and we found it took longer the second time.

The first time, you got on a tour bus that made several stops. But, you kept getting back on the same bus and going to the next location. I remember the tour taking maybe 2 hours and then we were able to see some of the IMAX shows and exhibits at the Visitor's Complex (the area where you first walk in).

In December, the tour was set up differently. You took a bus to the first area of the tour and it dropped you off. You could spend as much or as little time at that stop as you wanted. Then, you had to line up and take the next bus to the next stop. The buses just kept rotating around and taking people between the three (or 4 - can't remember) tour stops. After the last stop, we ended up waiting 30 minutes for a bus to take us back to the Visitor's Center. We needed to be back at WDW for a 7:00 p.m. ADR so we did very little else before leaving. Plus, by the time we got back, most of the movies already had their last showings for the day.

My advice would be to read the schedule before getting on the tour. If you want to see any movies, see them before the tour. We also bought a combo ticket that would get us into the Astronaut's Hall of Fame - which is located down the road from Kennedy. We didn't end up having time to stop there so we shouldn't have spent the extra money on the ticket.

WOW! Thank you so much for taking your time to write all this detailed info! It should really help us!:)

We went in May 06 and loved it. We did the Up Close tour and it was really informative. My parents came too and 2 ds's then 6 & 9 and they all liked it too. We also didn't have time to get to the Astronaut Hall of Fame. It was such a long day, we just couldn't do any more.
I think 6 hrs would not be enough time for everything but if you have 6 hrs to kill, you might as well be enjoying yourself. Go and if you find that you really are missing a lot, you can always return on another trip to spend more time.
Truthfully, I really didn't want to go at all (visions of alone-time for Mommy!) but dh pleaded so I gave in but I was surprised how much I enjoyed it and now I'm glad I went. :goodvibes
