Kennedy Space Center????

Hey out there, I need help....DH wants to go to Kennedy Space Center during our trip in June. The thing is....I don't...I don't like leaving DISNEY!!!! Anyway we have DS6 and DS3, and I don't think they will like it, am I wrong?? If it is fun, I don't want to keep the kids from seeing it, but I really think they would be upset leaving the Orlando area for an entire day. OK, I would be sad leaving the Orlando area for an entire day! Maybe DS6 would like it, but I doubt DS3 would have any interest! Has anyone gone? Thanks!

You are wrong We wouldn't dream of a trip down to WDW that didn't include a day at NASA. My kids call it the "real" part of the trip, and have all enjoyed it from 3 on up (infant-2 there were some noises they didn't care for, loud movies). The six year old may be beside himself You want to be sure to get there fairly early if you want to do any of the tours on the website. We also enjoy driving around in the area, as it is plunked down in the middle of a nature preserve. And, we include (within the national park area) a quick trip to wade in the ocean. It is a very precious part of our trip.

And what is better, a happy hubby or one muttering "its my vacation, too"?

When are you going down in June. There is two shuttles going up in late June and that will be a life time experience to see if you are going then. Yeah you have to leave Disney for a day but who would pass up seeing a shuttle launch. We went last year and saw the one go up on the 4th of July and we missed Disney that day but it was worth it. I mean no one in our family saw a shuttle go up before but we all saw Disney before. And we are hoping to see the one in June go up the last day we are in Florida. Plus there are many other things to do at the Space Center too.

Haha! I'm going down next month and staying at the Dolphin. My Mom and stepfather are staying offsite at a timeshare and my mom keeps trying to convince us to go over there for dinner one night! She thinks I'm joking when I say that I don't want to leave Disney.

I am probably going to upset some here but this is what I think. We went to NASA last year in May with our DS 7 and DD 4. I thought that it was very over priced for what it was and after being at Disney etc was very boring. Maybe if you went during a trip that did not include so much stuff for the kids that Disney offers it would be alright. But I was expecting hands on stuff that the kids could do etc, but most was just sit there and listen or read. I just think that combining it with a Disney trip is not the best idea. The best thing we did do was have lunch with and Astronaut which cost extra and was good but cost about $80 for all of us and we were joined by about 50 14 years from a local school which was not great. Anyway just my view.

we went a few years back in between a wdw trip and then a disney cruise. i enjoyed it as did dh, but neither of the kids (at the time dd 9, ds 6) did'nt seem to get much enjoyment out of it. they were impressed with the space shuttle and some of the displays, but they got bored pretty quickly. they honestly would have been happier to spend the bulk of their time in the little play area near the food places. ds also had a hard time with the misson control room where they replecate a launch-the booming sound of the rockets at the end realy bothered him, so if you have a little one with sensitive hearing or who does'nt like loud noises i'de avoid it.

i also agree that it's not cheap to do (esp if the kids want any souvineers or something to eat on top of admission) and it's not the shortest drive.

I will never forget when I was younger- my grandma brought us to FL quite a few times. We were able to stay one year and watch a space shuttle take off. The memory of her calling mom back home to say we were going to be a few days late combined with the excitement of the shuttle It is one of the best memories I will ever have

I really enjoyed our trip to the center much more than I thought I would.

If your husband is really excited about going, then I say give it a try. It may not be yours or the boys favorite part of the trip, but I'm sure making your DH happy too will be worth it.

We are going down on 6/7-6/14. As far as I know there aren't any shuttles going up at that time. I think it is later in the month. If we were able to see a lift off, I would go in a heart beat, but that's not the case. DH says he wants to go, but I don't think he's dying to go.....so we'll see. DS3 isn't the best behaved little beast that roamed the earth , so I guess I'm a little nervous that he will have a major melt down, and then what????? At least in the parks, we can divide and conquer. One of us stay with DS6 in the park and the other take the little one back to the hotel. What do I do at KSC, go sit in the car? I keep saying to DH to wait till the boys are older, then we'll go. You know those days....way off in the future, when you can go to a nice dinner out and actually enjoy it...... Sorry, I'll snap back into reality, that time is a good 10yrs away....but one can dream....

Go. We did the space center 2 years ago with our sons and it was inspiring. Now granted it is not disney but that's the beauty. This was exciting stuff that I could tell my sons "hey you can go to space one day too." When we went they had retired astronaunts around that would answer questions and gave interesting tidbits of info. Your younger son may be a little board because he may not understand a lot of it. My sons really enjoyed it.

oh please please go If your dh is excited and your 6 yo is excited and you don't act put out (and I bet you'll be excited, too), your 3 yo will be excited, too. Mine always were. And honestly, 6mo after our last trip, if the kids talk about anything spontaneously (not looking at photo album) its something from Kennedy.

If nothing else, its a good middle-of-the-trip side trip. A little less frantic than a park day, but not just sitting at a pool (you can do that at home )

This is your DHs vacation too. If he wants to go, why not go? We try to do things on our vacations that are on everyones list. If this is all he really wants to do, surely you can tear yourself away from Orlando for a day to make him happy.

We went last year & our 6YO & 9YO loved it. We were able to see a shuttle on the launchpad & the tours were great. DS9 thought it was great to get to hear from an actual astronaut & even DD6 who's not a space nut had a good time.
