Sorry to do this again but i am off to WDW tomorrow and i was trying to get some advise on taking fireworks with a SLR i have tried finding the site that went into detail but cannot get it to work. Kelly or any of you experts out there can you help thanks

There are a lot of good sites out there that go through the best way to take fireworks pictures. Just do a search and find the best on that suits your camera. I found this one and it seems pretty good.

Firework Pictures

Good luck.

If you are talking about Kelly Grannell's fireworks thread, it was removed when Kelly was kicked off the Disboards.

Wow! What did I miss? :confused3 I know I don't post too often, but I always got alot from her posts.

HE was a great photographer and will surely be missed by many here on the DIS. :guilty:

actually just to keep things accurate... she proved she was a she via driver's license ect

but i wish someone who was posting here would compile another thread of tips such as that one for us more technically challenged ones

fireworks tips i have written down but not tried as of yet

always use tripod and remote
fireworks setting or landscape or manual at 100 ISO, 2 sec shutter and f/10, what ever you have/use don't use flash

I agree about another stickey jan. I think it should be done by a moderator. At least take the info and post it just to be safe in the future.

Basically this was the info.

ISO: 200
Manual (M)
Shutter Speed: 3-6 seconds are the average ranges
Aperture (f-stop): f/8 or f/10 (P&S camera's can use f/5.6 also)

A tripod is THE most helpful piece of equipment no matter what kind of camera you have.
2nd most helpful is a remote shutter release (or self timer set to 2 seconds). This will help reduce camera shake by pressing the shutter yourself.

For those who don't have some sort of a tripod:
Use the highest ISO you can (400, 800 or 1600).
Generally the slowest hand holdable shutter speed is around 1/30th. If your camera has some sort of Image Stabilization then you may be able to go as low as 1/10th. Some camera's come with a fireworks setting.
Aperture can be f/5.6, f/8 or f/10 (or thereabouts)

As for hand holding the camera at the slower shutter. Hold with two hands firmly (not to tight as that can cause camera shake). If sitting on the ground I would keep your knees bent up and rest your arms on your knees. Hold your breath (breathing could cause some camera shake) thn slowly and gently press the shutter release.

You could also lean against a fence or pole or some other solid object.

Using the tripod method with the looooong shutter will give you the long streaks and big bright bursts. Using the non tripod method, you will get some big colorful bursts if you time it right.

Keep shooting. Its digital. You never know when you'll get THE good shot. Don't try, shoot, shoot shoot till the show ends.

Good luck.

I assume the mods had a good reason, there is always two sides to each story. There are a lot of people on here with knowledge of cameras.

If someone would like to start a thread about fireworks or any other subject that they believe should be stuck to the top of the board I would be more than happy to help you set it up. There are many great people on the boards who have provided assistance in the past and will in the future. In most cases all you have to do is ask. Without a stuck thread, you may also use the search function to look for previous posts on subjects of interest.

This thread like an earlier one is evolving into a discussion about banned users which is against board policy. If you have specific questions regarding the reasoning behind decisions on the boards I recommend sending the webmasters or moderators a private message or email. I'll be happy to answer any questions you might have. In the mean time I am closing this tread.
