Keeping Ukraine in our thoughts and prayers here

Really so sad. Thoughts and prayers with them. As want this war to end asap. But doubt it. :(

If news reports of long lines of Russian military vehicles moving into Ukraine are accurate, today could wind up being a very hard day for Ukraine - unless others come in to help them, which will probably then escalate worldwide tensions even more.

No one is going to get involved because Ukraine isn't a part of the EU or NATO. The best case is that private contractors get involved, which is basically retired military mercs.

Not sure there is a best case scenario. It shouldn’t have gotten this far.

Prayers for peace.

Did you see what the Ukraine Ambassador to the UN suggested? I'll just say his English is pretty good.
Yes. I'm not going to post a link to his speech because I know it would be too upsetting for many DISboard members, but if you watch his speech on YouTube, be sure to watch the entire speech.

Especially riveting for me was the prelude to his actual formal statement where he read a series of texts between a Russian mother and her son in Ukraine just moments before he was killed in combat. Very sad.

That was to rile up the Russian street. They do not want to be in Ukraine and only massive protests in Russia will do anything to stop this. Putzin must feel internal pressure from the usually apolitical Russian populace.

I only saw about a minute or so where he made a suggestion of what Putin should do to himself.

I think you are right. Ukraine is not capable of defeating Russia. The US and/or NATO are not going to join the fight. Sanctions will hurt Russia, but they take time to work and Russians are already exploring work-arounds. Symbolic statements and actions, no matter how well-intentioned, will have zero effect on Putin.

I only see two ways out:
  1. Russian public opinion gets so disruptive that Putin changes course, or
  2. The Russian military removes Putin.
And I do not expect either one of those things to actually happen.

I think it depends on how long the war takes and what guerilla actions Ukraine can organize afterwards. For some reason I think this may have been a huge mistake for Russia.
