Keeping Track of Points

I just joined DVC last month. It amazes me that I can't logon to a website and see my point totals.
I can see in a year or two down the line, I will lose track of points about to expire and how many points I've borrowed from next year.
Any suggestions would be helpful.

It is one of the great DVC mysteries why they have not gone to on-line point tracking and reservations. It seems they could save a lot of money and time by doing so. They already have an excellent system in place for WDW hotels through their central reservations. Why not DVC?

Thank you for tha link BCVOwner. I will install it at home tonight.

Has anyone suggested to Disney, that they make this information available via a web site?
I have been a member for 1 month and am surprised how little information is available on the web.

It's really NOT complicated once you get used to it. Just remember, every year (whichever month you start) you go back to your original amount, plus or minus any points you bank or borrow. You can only move point forward or back one year, so you can't get too far off base.

I promise it gets easier after a year or two!

I agree with you y2khardtop.
However, this is not new technology.
I am able to check my credit cards, check my bank accounts, trade stocks, pay my mortgage and phone bill online.

After paying Disney a sizeable amount of money, I would expect them to utilize current technology.

I called to make a reservation this morning and again was asked to take the survey. Every time I take this survey, I pick the internet option for making reservations. I know others have also done this. Why do they keep asking us? Maybe they don't like that answer and they plan on asking continually til they get the answer they want?

I've tried the DVCPlanner program, but then switched over to an Excel spreadsheet I setup. I incorporated my DVC points into a spreadsheet that I already had that kept track of my leave balances and my retirement planning. That way I have everything all on one spreadsheet. I have my life basically planned out for the next 5 years starting next year when I retire. I have all our planned DVC trips as well as all our planned cruises on it plus date and minute when I can retire, how much leave I will have accumulated by then, how much I'll get paid for excess leave not used, etc. And my DW and DD24 say I'm too compulsive in my planning; just because I check out the spreadsheet a dozen times a day :).

My husband and I just joined last night after 3 years of debating. Our guide told us that members will soon have the ability to check our points online, have the ability to bank and borrow points through the website, and make reservations.

The way he talked, it sounded like it was in the final stages and will be available sooner rather than later.

I hope this helps.

I hope you've got a backup of that spreadsheet. :scratchin You never know when the old 'puter might go up in smoke. I speak from experience. :headache:

I also use an Excel sheet supplemented with the DVC Planner.

Hmm...... if they do this, will more DVC CMs loose their jobs? :(

I doubt if CMs will lose their jobs if reservations go online. But with the tremendous influx of SSR members coming during the next couple of years, a useful website might save DVC from having to hire lots of new CMs.

I, for one, do not believe that we've been neglected in this matter. Disney always makes decisions that make good financial sense, and rolling out a new website sometime in the next 12 months makes good financial sense. It would also help explain why the current website is getting so little attention from them now; they're not wasting time pouring new wine into an old bottle.

Remember, the splendid new WDW website just opened a few weeks ago. Don't worry. We'll be next.

(How do I know what I'm talking about? Um, I don't. But--as I tell my wife all the time--I'm right anyway!)
