Keeping maiden name when marrying

I do think it's just easier for a couple to have the same last name. I don't think it matters who's last name it is (his or hers), or even a new name for both (a co-worker of mine did that, they didnt' like either of their last names so they picked a brand new one!). I think what matters is that all involved are happy with whatever choice is made. If a couple decide they each want to keep their own name, it's all good!

I am 38 and have been married for almost 13 years. I questioned taking his name back then, but I went with tradition, and did what was expected. I am still happily married, but hate my name.

Changing my name - It really wasn't necessary! I should have kept my maiden name. I liked it more and I identified with it more, and still do.

We don't have kids, so maybe "the name" means less to me than some people.

Unfortunately, what is done is done, and I can't go back in time. If I were to tell DH that I wanted to go back to my maiden name, I think it would be really hurtfull for him.

Could you be any less respectful of other people's choices?! Are you a troll, just trying to be rude? Or are you really that narrow minded that you utterly refuse to even consider that someone might have reasons for an opinion that is different that yours?

Many people on this thread have tried to provide reasons for what they believe, most in very civilized way. You just seem to stamp your foot and state and restate your opinion, with no supporting thoughts. And yet you feel it's okay to laugh at others. Unbelievable...
