Can anyone help? We are off in September for first ever trip. Going as a group of 14. My question is with regards keeping in touch with each other round the park. My thinking was rather than paying silly mobile phone prices all the time. Take a set of walkie talkies of some sort. We can then keep find out each other wear about with out any phone charges. Has anyone ever done this? Is reception any good? Are we OK to put these in the suitcases. Don’t want them to think we are carry a suspect package.

Could you pick up French sim cards when you get there? that would mean you would be using French local tarriffs instead of international ones.

Or you designate times and places you will meet, and designate someone in each of the groups who are off doing different things to check their mobiles. If folk are late back at whatever meeting point you've designated you text them using your mobile. This way you're not paying silly money for international mobile phone calls, and you don't have the initial outlay for French sim cards/walkie talkies.

Last time we went my DDs went off and did their own thing quite a bit ~ we used to pre-arrange when and where we'd meet up again but just texted each other if need be in the meantime. We're going to use texting again when we go in May as it's much cheaper than phoning.

I see no reason why you can't travel with walkie-talkies ~ I'm sure I've seen on the UKTP board that people have taken them to WDW but we found texting each other worked fine for us there too.

There's been a couple of DISers on here who've been with large parties so hopefully they'll be along to chip in but if it were me I'd do the pre-arranged time and place thingy alongside texting as I'm sure it will work out cheaper than purchasing walkie talkies.

I know a teacher that takes a group of 60 kids to DLP every year and she uses walkie talkies to keep in contact with the other teachers and the resposible adults looking after the kids. Well if you find any resposible adults once they enter DLP :rotfl2:.

She has had no problems at all with her walkie talkies as mobile signals in the park can be a bit patchy. She got 4 cheap ones from Currys and they work fine.

We used walkie talkies in DLP to keep in contact with my inlaws- until last time we went when my FIL managed to drop his in the water on the story book land boat ride!!!

if you own walkie talkies then that might work for you

if you have to buy them it would probably just be cheaper to txt each other and set up a designated meeting point
