Keeping in budget trip

I don't live in the states and I'm not very familiar with foodstamps. However, are they not for people who cannot afford to feed themselves and their families? Are there not income and savings minimums needed to qualify? If someone has enough money to take a family of five to WDW (not a cheap trip), wouldn't they make too much to qualify for aid?

I agree that we don't know the OP's story (assuming, for the sake of argument, that it was a real question), but don't we know that she must make under $X/month and have under $Y in savings, even if we don't know why?

Agree we don't know much which is my point. She could have been saving $40 bucks a month for five years and the check she referred to could be a pay check. Maybe her husband just left her or she has a disabled child she must care for and had to quit her job or maybe she was laid off.

Yes for many support programs in the states you have to meet a certain low income threshold..

I just don't like when some Disers state that you can't go to Disney unless you are debt free, thousands in the bank etc. And no I would not go if I felt I had debt hanging over my head or in bad financial shape, but to each his own. Just so many assumptions here. (Not you by the way.;))

Its irresponsible to take money to go on vacation when you are on food stamps.

Totally agree! If I have credit card debt, or owe on my car, or have a mortgage (before I'm flamed, I have none of those, btw), does that mean I'm not allowed to do anything fun until I'm in the black? Should I just toil away forever until all my bills are paid before I do anything that might be construed as "frivolous" or "unnecessary"? Ridiculous. Life shouldn't be joyless just because you have bills to pay.

Do I think food stamps should be used at Disney? Not really, but I also don't even think this thread is real. If that one line about food stamps had been left out by the OP, this thread would've probably died 2 pages ago.

I am relatively new and I have seen this same thread posted several times by the same person under different names (almost verbatim), so if you're joining from another board I can confirm that it's fake, no need to be alarmed.

ETA: feeding the troll... must stop- but I was on food stamps while serving full time in Americorps (it's mandated that volunteers qualify regardless; you're not allowed to take on another job), and took several trips (not to Disney, but to see family and friends) with other money I saved. I saw it as me using my own tax dollars that I've paid into since i was 14 and in the years since. I also ate steak and loved it. Deal!
