Keeping a stroller from being stolen?

I'm a bit worried too we are taking our Phil and teds inline also quite expensive but it lies flat so bubs can nap in the park, last year we just took a umbrella stroller to wdw or her sister and it was fine but she was a bit older and we didnt need it to seat the two of them. I will have our name both hidden and obvious so we could confront someone if we saw them with it, we will also use a bike lock and not leave anything in it...

We've taken our Bob a couple of times and never worried about it. I did hang a sparkly sign on it (attached with florist wire wrapped about a dozen times around the handle) and we made sure to never leave anything in it. I generally think they are more interested in the stuff people leave in strollers, cameras, wallets, etc.

We're thinking of putting batter powered christmas lights for next time. I think that will keep the thieves away, at least at night. lol

We also belong to the few who have stolen strollers at Disneyland. In our case, it was most definitely the contents that they were after, though. We have a 12 year old Grace that has been through 2 girls and 8 trips to Disneyland among other places. It is so well loved that it has no monetary value whatsoever. We had never had any trouble until our trip last December. We actually parked our stroller in an empty spot between two others and in front of our friends empty umbrella stroller to sandwich it in a 'safe' spot. When we came out, it was gone. Security did find it after the park closed and so we were able to get the stroller and almost all the contents back. The item they must have been after was our semi-hidden camera that dear hubby forgot to grab.

The moral of the story is that strollers do get stolen. It sounds like it is occassionally for the stroller, but more often than not for what is left in the stroller. Don't leave anything you can't replace or that is of value behind. I would feel safe with doing that! And I would leave a stroller again, I would just not forget the camera!

As a side note, I did forget my new cell phone on top the stroller on one visit to the Muppets. I was sure it would be long gone when we came out. Nope!! It was right where I left it! In all circumstances you just never know... :confused3

Can't most providers essentially kill a stolen cell phone from ever being used? It's not that valuable to a thief.

We brought my sister in law's double bumble ride stroller last year, and nothing happened to it. I was really surprised that nobody stole it because I left my cooler bag that looks like a purse in the basket. (I realized on the second day that even though *I* know it's a cooler bag, it really looks like a purse!) We always backed the stroller in when parking it, and put the brake on. That way, you couldn't just walk by and run off with it, you really had to get behind it, release the brake, and sneak in between the stroller and a fence/tree or whatever we parked it up against. She has since sold the stroller, so this year we just bought a second hand double umbrella for $35.

I really do think it's the luck of the draw, but having a $600 stroller stolen would really put a damper on the trip, you know? I've been researching ways to deter thieves but really, if someone came in to steal strollers, I'm sure they have scissors and a small wire cutter hidden somewhere.

*sigh* I can't figure out what to do. We need a double but I'm afraid to bring mine!

Honestly, I think there are enough strollers to choose from that they wouldn't bother with the ones that would be a hassle. If I saw fifty strollers in one area, I would pick the least conspicuous one. That way if I got caught, I could just say that I thought it was mine. Obviously I am not a stroller thief, but I imagine they would think the same way. But, if you are really that worried about it, just bring a cheap one. Otherwise you will just stress about it the whole time.

My daughter and son-in-law have a sure fire way to make sure their stroller is not stollen nor are it's contents. ********They bring me, the grandma :). *********. I even take the kids in the evening so mommy and daddy can go have a meal with out having kids wanting this or that.

If you can not have the grandma/ grandpa go then I think the lock thru the back wheels is the best idea I have seen on the boards.

My best advice to everyone is --Do not leave packages in your stroller. That cute sweat shirt that cost a near fortune can fit a lot of people. It can also be resold on places like e-bay as new never worn. Sad that we must think that any one at any time can take our treasures, but it happens all to often. Disneyland is not imune to crime in the form of stealing or pick pocketing so play safe.

Just make sure you hide that lock at security. We were sent back to the car with ours. Well, we just went out of sight and hid it under the baby, but we didn't use it. We were told it could be a fire hazard, if the stroller can't be moved, and people need to evacuate.

The lock we used was something like this. It was my husbands bike lock and it was pretty heavy duty. We never had a problem at the gate, though the black of the lock probably blended in with the black diaper bag.
