Keep, Update, or Demolish...Mission Space?

I just read the latest Keep Update or Demolish article this time the Epcot edition and I have to say I agree with just about everything. For me, the only real disagreement I have is about Mission Space. Though I am not a huge roller coaster fan, I enjoy thrill rides that offer more unique experiences. Mission Space is one of a kind and in my mind takes immersive attractions to a whole new level, I mean you actually feel like your launching into space. I don't argue at all that many people get sick on this ride, and therefore makes the range of people willing to ride it smaller. But it frustrates me when people complain that Disney has no thrill rides when in fact they have attractions like this that are the definition of thrilling. I think Disney needs more groundbreaking technological attractions that are completely unique, not less. What do you guys think is Mission Space really due for a big change? Maybe these kinds of thrills just have no place at WDW.

I've never even attempted to ride it due to motion sickness. DD rode it one and done... so I would vote demolish and get something that more people would ride to alleviate crowds at other places.

I couldn't agree with you more. Surprised that Disney kept this ride since they had to tone it down from day one and make another version just to get people to ride it. There are many other rides they can put in that space that cater to the masses not the few.

I vote for demolish! Rode it once, and it was the "mild" version and I have no interest to ride it again.

Yes, they could leave Ellen's Energy, update it a bit because it does need it, and put Guardians over at Mission Space!

I rode it one time before the update that made this experience milder, and for me, it was once and done. I am never going to go on it again, so if they demolished it, I would be okay with that.

I enjoy the physical realism ... But in a time in which we are receiving regular photo updates from the surface of Mars, I think Mission Space is overdue for a visual and plot update.

And why, In the "Mission Control" (before the debriefing room) is one of the computers replaying a black n white video of a goose (or some bird) crash landing?

Demolish. Put a real headliner in there. Everyone knows Epcot is sorely lacking in solid attractions.

I've only ridden Mission Space green once, but I loved it. I had a blast and am definitely in the KEEP category.

I don't know if its possible, but they could always come up with different scenarios and randomize them so that you don't know what you are getting.

Following people's logic, I suggest that they demolish the Teacups at MK because they make me very ill. On the other hand, I can ride M:S Orange with no problems at all. I could see an update or GoG overlay for M:S, but the core ride it still quite new and fine by me.

Definite keeper. Never had a problem with this ride. Every time we have been there the orange side is much busier than the green so I don't know why people feel people don't ride Mission Space.

I am in the keep column too!! I love it, both orange and green!

Absolutely this. There are many different forms of motion sickness out there. Some people seem to struggle on rides like the tea cups but are fine on roller coasters. Others can do roller coasters as long as they aren't simulators like Star Tours. Anyway, it seems like no matter what kind of motion sickness you suffer from, you will have a problem with Mission Space. I don't see why they have a ride that so many people just can't ride, not to mention the large number of people I have spoken to who don't have a problem with motion sickness and they still hate the ride. And, let's not forget that they got rid of Horizons to make way for Mission Space. Honestly, I'm sure that also really contributes to my feelings on the ride. They got rid of a ride that anyone could ride (and was very much an extension of Carousel of Progress made to fit in with what Epcot once was) and brought in a ride that seems like a majority of people can't or won't do. Get rid of it and bring in something else. And, if that something else could actually pertain to cutting edge technology, well that'd be swell.

Where do people get the idea that the majority of people can't ride Mission Space?

Though I am in the group that would like to see something else there other than Mission Space, I lean against removing it. Disney did that to the Wonders of Life and has not put anything new there for a decade. Ask Disney to get rid of Mission Space and replace it with something else and what you are likely to get is the former and not the latter. For many years it has seemed that Disney has treated Future World as the place where ideas of real improvement go to die. Before doing anything with Mission Space, it needs to do something creative with Wonders of Life to show it has any interest at all in improving Future World.

Keep. It was one of my 6yr Olds favorite rides. She insisted we go back to Epcot twice more so she could ride it again.

I'd love to see it go away and put something worth a darn there. Horizons II perhaps?
