My biggest tip would be not to get discouraged.

I tried Monday morning for Illuminations in August and was told they were all sold out at about 30 seconds after 7:00 am. I took the Wishes Cruise instead, but was so unsure. I figured we'd see Wishes inside the park and if we saw it through the cruise my DH wouldn't stay and watch the later day that we did MK.

Anyway, as I was sitting here looking at all the postings about Illuminations vs. Wishes. I said to myself why not see if there's a cancellation (about 11:40 a.m. Eastern time). I called and asked the wonderful CM for 8/8, 8/9, 8/11 or 8/13. Well she came back with availability for Wednesday 8/11! Wow - I couldn't believe our luck!

This is just what we wanted because, the kids loved Illuminations when we were there last time and since we weren't planning on going to Epcot - this works out great.

I feel real lucky!

So keep trying - you never know!

That is true for any event that sells out quickly (fireworks cruises, Princess breakfasts, etc.). Keep calling back; cancellations do come up!

Congratulations on getting your cruise!

Shergoof...you will NOT be disappointed with this cruise!! To make it EXTRA EXTRA EXTRA special ask for Captain Ron as your guide! Because of him, the cruise was our most favorite memory of WDW this past trip!! Not only was he knowledgeable but very funny and very kind and you can tell he truly enjoys his job!! He found out we liked disney trivia so upon arriving at home there was an envelope sitting there from him with about 10 pages of disney trivia! We dubbed him "Recreation Ron" and we will go on an illuminations cruise every year as long as we get him as our guide!!!!

I feel silly asking, but what PS for Illuminations are you talking about? A cruise? We're new to this so I'm still learning.

It's an Illuminations Cruise (aka Specialty Cruise). It takes you under a bridge into Epcot to view the fireworks. I believe there are only 5/6 boats, so that's why they're are hard to get.

As this word goes hand in hand for everything worthwhile at Disney, what does it cost per person?????

We went on an Illuminations Cruise last September with some DIS members, and had a blast.

You will have a great time and won't regret it. We had a wonderful Captain (and darn, I can't remember his name) which made it all more wonderful - even DH was impressed with him. He gave us information on the Swan and Dolphin, on the lagoon and we had a prime spot for Illuminations, which is my favorite.

It is costly - around $120, and it goes up from there - but well worth it.

It is $120 (that includes tax but don't forget a nice tip for a good captain!) there is a thread at the top of the theme park strategies board that gives all the info about anythign you'd ever want to know about illuminations and even a place to post to share cruises with others
