We may have to keep the rental car an extra day. I was just going to rebook it but the rate goes from $124 to $483! I'm thinking of either telling them when I check the car out that I need it another day and see what they say or call after I have it and let them know I'm keeping it another day. Anyone ever do this with alamo or any other company? What did you have to pay extra? Late fee? Extra day fee?

You will be charged the extra day, not just a late fee.

They will recalculate your rate based on the extra day. You will be at their mercy and won't really know what your rate will be until they print your receipt after returning the car.

Best just to rent for a single day as a backup. Sure it will be a pain to return and pickup again, but this is a backup. Keep watching for rates for your full rental term and rebook when the price beats that of your two rentals combined.

We were stranded in Orlando due to weather canceling our flights and making us stay another day. I called the day before because I saw the weather moving in at home and that there might be cancellations. I called the day before to ask what my options were. I cant remember the details but I told them that I had no choice and that I had to keep the car one more day. They said that they noted my account and that they wont take any action until I actually confirmed the extra day. When I received the official word I called back Alamo, I used Alamo, and they let me keep the car another day with no charge. Now I know that maybe my situation might not be the same as yours, but I would try what I did and call the day before to ask what your options are and try to play the sympathy card with your rental company. The worst they could do was just charge you for the extra day.

Similar situation…renting with Alamo via Costco discount for $103 for four days, but need the vehicle for 8 extra hours. I had originally thought we would return the car and stay at an airport hotel that offered a shuttle for our early departure. Now, we just don't want to do all the crazy logistics, but to rebook to include a next day 5:30am return time instead if 9:30pm, it is an extra $83! Crazy!

As some have stated, they will reprice the whole rental. You may be in for a surprise at the final price. Don't expect to get any breaks.

Just as an update in case anyone else runs into this. I ended up calling Alamo and telling them I needed another day the only charge was the daily fee that was included in my original reservation. So it was only $17 extra for the day. They DID NOT reprice the entire reservation. Got to love Alamo!

Whatever you do, do not just keep the car the extra day hoping that things will work out when you do return the car.

Even if you tried to rebook before you got there, you can ask again for the extra day partway through your rental. If you don't get a favorable outcome, take the car back punctually and rent another car from the same or different rental agency.

They will probably grant you the extra day upon your request for no more than the extra day charge printed on your contract if a hurricane is raging around the time your car is due back.

I had this same circumstance for Alamo.

That has been my experience with Alamo as well. Except I think my daily rate was higher, but still. :)
