We're visiting Aulani early next month and the Kaneohe Sandbar looks really cool! Has anyone ever kayaked there? We are a group of 8 with 4 kids ranging from 7 - 15 years old. I was thinking the double kayaks would be fun. Is the water calm in that area? Safe? If you kayaked, where did you rent from? Thank you!!

It is ocean kayaking. Don't expect it to be like a lake, and you must be able to handle tide pull or capsizing. Never take the ocean for granted

There are several kayak rentals nearby. Under Hawaiian law you will have to pull them to the beach and put in. Rental is not right at the beach.

Appreciate this! 4 of the 8 aren't used to being around the ocean so will skip the kayaking. Don't want it to potentially be a bad experience for them! Thank you!

There are guides who do the experience if there is concern.

But ocean adds a level of difficulty even with a fairly calm trip like the sandbar. Heck, people regularly drown at Hanauma Bay snorkeling. The Pacific is to be treated with caution.

I'm an open water swimmer, as in I race in open water. I would not do an ocean kayak tour of any kind without a guide. Guides can read the tides in their area and know how to maneuver around the tides so that you can get to the destination safely.

I would go on Viator or Trip Advisor to find a tour. They will also haul the kayaks to the location so you don't have to worry about how to get them there.
