Santa Monica, CA, United States (AHN) - Katherine Heigl has just landed a plum role.
The Greys Anatomy star has been selected to portray Stephanie Plum, the detective from Janet Evanovichs bestselling literary crime thriller series. Heigl will star in the part in the upcoming One for the Money from Lionsgate, with distribution by Lakeshore Entertainment and Sidney Kimmel Entertainment.
The announcement was made by Joe Drake, COO and motion picture group president of Lionsgate; Tom Rosenberg, entertainment chairman and CEO of Lakeshore; and Sidney Kimmel, Sidney Kimmel Entertainment chairman.
Janet Evanovich has created an extraordinary literary character in Stephanie Plum. Katherine Heigl is the perfect actress to bring Stephanie to the screen, Rosenberg said in a press release. Gary Lucchesi and I are thrilled to be reunited with her after our wonderful experience on The Ugly Truth. This is our second collaboration with Sidney Kimmel and we are looking forward to many more. Having worked on several films with Lionsgate over the years, we know that One for the Money is in the best possible hands.
Lucchesi will be co-producing the movie with Rosenberg, along with Kimmel and Wendy Finerman. Mike Paseornek, president of president of Lionsgates motion picture production, will also oversee the film.
Were delighted to be working again with Katherine Heigl, who is the perfect actress to play Janet Evanovich's smart, gutsy and funny heroine, Paseornek said.
The Last Song filmmaker Julie Ann Robinson is slated to direct, and screenwriter Liz Brixius is currently working on a rewrite of the script.
The story follows Plum, a 30-year-old woman just divorced, newly unemployed and living in Trenton, N.J. Taking a job for her cousins bail bonds business, she takes on more than she can handle by getting involved in his biggest case, which just happens to involve her old high school boyfriend.

Even Janet envisioned Stephanie to be Sandra Bullock.
; (b) Janet Evanovich sold the rights to "One for the Money" before it was even published; and (c) Lula plays only a minor supporting role in that book, as do Morelli and Ranger.
