Santa Monica, CA, United States (AHN) - Katherine Heigl has just landed a plum role.

The “Grey’s Anatomy” star has been selected to portray Stephanie Plum, the detective from Janet Evanovich’s bestselling literary crime thriller series. Heigl will star in the part in the upcoming “One for the Money” from Lionsgate, with distribution by Lakeshore Entertainment and Sidney Kimmel Entertainment.

The announcement was made by Joe Drake, COO and motion picture group president of Lionsgate; Tom Rosenberg, entertainment chairman and CEO of Lakeshore; and Sidney Kimmel, Sidney Kimmel Entertainment chairman.

“Janet Evanovich has created an extraordinary literary character in Stephanie Plum. Katherine Heigl is the perfect actress to bring Stephanie to the screen,” Rosenberg said in a press release. Gary Lucchesi and I are thrilled to be reunited with her after our wonderful experience on ‘The Ugly Truth.’ This is our second collaboration with Sidney Kimmel and we are looking forward to many more. Having worked on several films with Lionsgate over the years, we know that ‘One for the Money’ is in the best possible hands.”

Lucchesi will be co-producing the movie with Rosenberg, along with Kimmel and Wendy Finerman. Mike Paseornek, president of president of Lionsgate’s motion picture production, will also oversee the film.

“We’re delighted to be working again with Katherine Heigl, who is the perfect actress to play Janet Evanovich's smart, gutsy and funny heroine,” Paseornek said.

“The Last Song” filmmaker Julie Ann Robinson is slated to direct, and screenwriter Liz Brixius is currently working on a rewrite of the script.

The story follows Plum, a 30-year-old woman just divorced, newly unemployed and living in Trenton, N.J. Taking a job for her cousin’s bail bonds business, she takes on more than she can handle by getting involved in his biggest case, which just happens to involve her old high school boyfriend.

Ick, I am not a fan of Katherine Heigl. She isn't anything like I (or most people) think Stephanie looks like.

I think she will do a good job. From her past acting, I think she has the Stephanie attitude. And anyone can dye their hair.

I am more interested to see who they find to play Morelli and Ranger. And the creepy boxer.

Based only on the physical description of Stephanie in every book, I think Jennifer Garner would have been a better choice.

:thumbsup2

Love the books.

With this casting, I don't think I will be paying to see this movie. Perhaps when it comes out on HBO, Cinemax or one of the others we subscribe to, but probably not.

I don't need Heigl burned in my mind as the now permanent image of Stephanie. This is one series of books I would rather allow my imagination to rule.

Thank you for posting the announcement. I can't wait for the movie either, but not thrilled about Katherine Heigl playing Stephanie.

You can also check out this thread to get a pulse on what a lot of people think about it:

I guess time will tell what the reviews of her as Stephanie will be! :)

Love Stephanie.....not so much Katherine. Not sure if I will see the movie or not.
The rest of the casting might decide that.

I love Katherine however I don't know a thing about the books.

I will listen to you guys that she is not a match for the character as I hold my candle that Tom Hanks is NOT Robert Langdon (DaVinci Code).:lmao:

I'm with you. She soooooo does not have the Chambersburg attitude. And she's not that good of an actress to get one!

I think I'll stick to the books and skip the movie.

I agree- ICK! I read an interview of Katherine recently and her attitude just completely rubbed me the wrong way - at the time of the pictures of the interview her hair was dyed dark for the movie- I guess it made her look more like Stephanie might - but still not a fan of her being Stephanie- wonder who else will be in it-- Grandma and Lula are my favorites! :rotfl:

I agree that C.H. isn't the best pick.....or even a good pick :rolleyes1 Even Janet envisioned Stephanie to be Sandra Bullock.
I can't wait to see who Morelli, Grandma, Lula, Mom Ellen, Dad Frank, Valerie, Joyce, and the YUMMY RANGER are.

Yuck. Love the books but don't love her. I have always pictured Sandra Bullock as Stephanie. I guess she's a little too old to pull off 30 but if anyone could do it, she could!

Lulu! Who could play Lulu?

I'm a Katherine Heigl fan and I'd like to see what she could do with the character. Of course, I have no idea about the "Jesrey attitude" and whether she could it off!

Mmmmmmm...

Based only on the physical description of Stephanie in every book, I think Jennifer Garner would have been a better choice.

At first I was going to agree, but I don't know if I could see Garner doing some of the scenes. Like the fights and sex scenes. I think of her as 'too sweet' for those.

I see Mo'Nique as Lula.

100% Lula. She could totally pull it off!

That could work...

I totally don't picture her as Stephanie Plum. I think they could have picked someone better. Not sure who, but definitely lots more talent out there to choose from.

I can see Sandra Bullock in the role. Don't care for KH.

Gramma has to be Betty White.

herc

Unfortunately (a) Sandra Bullock is about fifteen years older now than the Stephanie Plum character :(; (b) Janet Evanovich sold the rights to "One for the Money" before it was even published; and (c) Lula plays only a minor supporting role in that book, as do Morelli and Ranger.

All that said, my casting:

Stephanie: Vanessa Marcil or Drew Barrymore
Lula: Sherry Shepard
Connie: Jessica Simpson
Vinnie: Danny DeVito or Steve Buscemi
Ranger: Adrian Grenier (may need some body work ;)
Morelli: Joe Manganiello
Grandma: Betty White or Cloris Leachman
Mrs. Plum: Christine Baranski or Jane Lynch
Mr. Plum: Timothy Busfield or Steve Martin
Bad guys (sorry, it's been a while since I read this book)
Fighter: Chi Rodriguez or Forrest Whitaker
Manager: James Caan
