You know what I'm talking about. Those low-slung, tight little cars, like a Javelin, with the big engine.Something the cops picked up in a drug raid. I dont' know one car from another if it's not a Jeep Wrangler.

Sure. When they pick up SUVs, et al, it goes to evidence. Once the case is tried, the cars are transferred to the PD and they're outfitted with their lights and safety equipment. It is not uncommon to see Escalades and Mustangs all decked out. I've even seen Tahoes and Yukon trucks in full police regalia.

I really doubt this. The safety of these vehicles in high speed pursuits? You want your police dept. using an off the line vehicle, possibly/probably modified by the first owner; or would you rather have them driving a vehicle designed for and equipped for the task?

I'm sure they (the police) want a vehicle with all the heavy duty components that would be too costly to retro-fit these seized vehicles.

Yeah.. I have seen a completely pimped out low rider truck turn on their lights on the freeway before. I have seen all kinds of different types of police cars around here.

,, and why did the car have to be a drug dealers car, why couldn't it just be souped up, not all souped up, big engine cars are used by people who deal drugs, that's like saying the only people who are obese are obese from overeating (apples to oranges maybe)

I'm glad that Georgia's finest was able to educate that driver on the importance of obeying the Stop sign on the school bus. Here in SC if you run the stop arm from the school bus, that is a $1000.00 fine and 6 points off your license.

At least once a week someone will go right past the stop arm when DD is either getting on or off the bus. Once the UPS man yelled and swore at the bus driver to close the stop arm because DD is in a wheelchair and can't "run" into the street. As soon as I got back inside the house, I made a call to UPS.

They do it here, too. All different makes/models.

That caught me by surprise, too. It's satisfying when they get caught by the cops, but I wouldn't cheer an obviously serious accident.

I can tell you have doubts, but it's still a fact. I don't know the procedure for making the cars police-worthy, but I promise you, seized are used for police vehicles in our area. Trust me.

Absolutely there are, I've seen them frequently too. Mustangs and Camaro's too.

They buy these new with police package suspensions and a great deal of modifications to make them safe and reliable for police work, chases, etc.

The issue is a poster believes her PD uses seized cars for marked patrol cars. This is a huge public liability,and an incredible safety concern for the officer.

I don't believe there's a police department in the country stupid enough to use a seized vehicle for uniformed patrol.

Sell the seized vehicle and buy something designed for patrol??? Excellent idea!!

Thanks for the link, you prove my point. At least they seem to know the vehicle would be unsafe for patrols.

Absolutely possible. Just very ignorant for the municiipality to do so and I would not want to live in those communities.

I'm sure risk management would have an issue with it too. At least they should. Nothing says payday like using inadequate equipment for a highly specialized task, particularly when the specialized equipment is readily available from every major auto manufacturer.

Police cars are not like the cars that you and I drive, even if they have the same body style, shape, and form. Better to sell seized assets and use the money for equipment (cars) specifically designed for the task.
