Day 1-Friday October 22, 2004
A town car picked my friend Leah and I up at 8:30 a.m. for our 10:40 JetBlue flight out of Boston. I really like flying JetBlue. The flight crew and ground crew are all super friendly and helpful. Our flight landed at MC0 at 1:25 p.m., 15 minutes ahead of schedule. We went to baggage claim and grab our luggage. After a quick stop at Publix for some groceries, we were off to Pop Century.
Our room was ready when we arrived at Pop. We were in room 0157 in the 70`s section. Our room was clean and comfortable. It was plenty big for my friend and me, but I think it would be crowded for four people. The walls were paper thin. We could hear our neighbors talking, and the telephone ring. I enjoyed walking around the resort and looking at all the icons. It was fun looking at the Rubix Cube and Pac Man and the ghosts in the 80s section. There seemed to be quite a bit of working going on around the grounds. There were several areas that were roped off and being landscaped. I thought the food court was fantastic. There was an excellent selection of fresh and prepared foods.
After getting settled in our room, we took a bus to MGM. We had booked a Fantasmic dinner package at Hollywood & Vine, so we went right to the restaurant. The food was very good. I really liked the turkey pot roast and southwest caesar salad. I really enjoyed the snickers cheesecake.
After dinner, we went on the Great Movie Ride, and then watched the Little Mermaid and the Muppets. We then went to see Fantasmic, which was as fantastic as ever. Fantasmic is one of my favorite things to see at Disney World. I had gotten rained out of it during my last trip, so I was glad to be able to catch it this time around.
After Fantasmic, I hot footed it over to the Boardwalk to go to Jellyrolls. I made it out of Fantasmic, and walked to Jellyrolls in about 25 minutes. My favorite piano players Scotty and Ray were playing, and it would be the only chance I would get to see them play together during my trip, although I would be catching Scotty later in the week. A couple of DISers--SyracuseWolverine ant Travelin'Tigger--met me at the bar.
At the beginning of the night, Tommy Bell, one of the piano players was asking where everyone was from, and when he got to me, he said, I know where you're from. You're a local. I replied, No I'm not. I'm from Boston. He said, So everytime you come here, you come all the way from Boston? I replied, Yes." He said, "I did not know that." You know you go to a bar too much when the think you are a local.
Scotty and Ray were as wonderful as ever. As soon as Scotty spotted me, he announced that "Our friend Karen is here." I got a big hello from Scotty and Ray. SyracuseWolverine requested "Charlie on the MTA [The Man Who Never Returned]" by the Kingston Trio and I requested "Dirty Water" so they did our two Boston songs back to back. Some guy left a tip on Scotty's piano to never play "Charlie on the MTA" again.
We left Jellyrolls around midnight. As we were walking out of the bar, I spotted Andrew Dan Jumbo from the TLC show While You Were Out sitting at the bar. I didnt say anything to him, as he was chatting with someone, but it was pretty neat seeing him there. It was a great start to a great trip.
