Day 4--Tuesday, May 10, 2005
Kongaloosh!
I woke up bright and early again on Tuesday morning so that I could meet Kaycee and my DIS friend KatyPop for early morning at MGM. I was meeting Kaycee near the pool at the Boardwalk for the walk to MGM. I grabbed a croissant for breakfast to eat as we walked. We met KatyPop at the bus information booth outside of MGM at 7:50, and made our way into the park.
We immediately walked over to the Rock N Roller Coaster. We road it twice in a row. We then headed over to the Tower of Terror. Did you all know that the Tower of Terror is KatyPops absolutely, positively, most favoritest ride in the whole entire universe? We had an exciting ride on the Tower of Terror, but neither Kaycee nor KatyPop wanted to ride again. Bummer.
We then headed towards the Great Movie Ride. As we walked up Sunset Blvd., I saw the guy who was sitting behind me on Space Mountain the day before. We both did one of those, Why do I know him/her? looks at each other, and both realized how we knew each other. I was going to start singing again, but decided to spare the poor guy.
After riding the Great Movie Ride, we decided to head out of the park. On the way out, I stopped to get my golden guest of honor badge. Did you know that if you wear a golden guest of honor badge around the parks, lots of folks will stop you and ask you questions? Wheres the bathroom? Wheres the elevator? Did you know its scary when you realize that you can answer all of their questions?
While I was waiting for them to engrave my guest of honor badge, Lily called me to let me know she was in the park. I went outside the store and called, Lily, where are you? She was standing right in the middle of the street, spinning around trying to spot us.
We all wound up leaving MGM, and started walking back towards the Boardwalk. While we walked, I commented that if anyone had walked by us and heard us talking, theyd be surprised by the variety of our accents. I have a thick Boston accent (which gets a lot thicker when people comment on it. Lily sounds like a mid-westerner. Karen has the accent of a sweet Kentucky girl. KatyPop is Canadian, eh. I stopped along the way to take a picture of the Swan, which was getting a paint job. It was neat to see the difference between the faded section, and the freshly painted section. Looking good.
KatyPop, Lily, and I said goodbye to Kaycee, who wanted to have some pool time. We made a quick stop up to my room to show KatyPop who wonderful it is to be a DVC member (sorry the bed wasnt made, Kathe).
We then headed over to Epcot. We walked over and grabbed some fast passes for Soarin and then headed over to Spaceship Earth. I confused a cast member by sticking my head between Lily and KatyPops seat as we were leaving the loading area. I really enjoy going on Spaceship Earth--its just such a classic ride, and definitely a must see each trip.
After riding Spaceship Earth, we were off to ride Soarin. This time, we were in the third row. I thought the sensations on the ride were much more defined sitting in row three than they are in row one. However, it is distracting to see the feet of the people in the row above you. But once I got past the feet, I really enjoyed the sensations of the ride as the ride progressed.
After Soarin, KatyPop and I said goodbye to Lily and headed over to Nine Dragons for lunch. I know a lot of people dont like Nine Dragons, but it is one of my favorite restaurants at Disney. Ive never had a bad meal there. My one complaint about Nine Dragons is that the tables are too close together. Even though the restaurant was only about a quarter full, they put us at a table right next to a couple--our tables were just 2 or 3 inches apart.
I ordered my typical Nine Dragons meal--pot stickers and General Tsos chicken. KatyPop got pot stickers and the Happy Family. I really enjoyed my meal. The pot stickers were served with a delicious spicy ginger sauce, which I saved to put on my rice as well. The General Tsos chicken was outstanding--peppery and lightly spicy. KatyPop seemed to enjoy her meal as well.
After lunch, we started to head out of the park, as I had plans to meet Kaycee and Lily to go to the Animal Kingdom. As we passed the American Adventure, I noticed that Epcot Vybe was about to play, so we popped in and listened to their set--I was glad I did, as they did some of my favorite songs.
I said goodbye to KatyPop at the International Gateway, and made my way over to the Dolphin to meet up with Lily. I made a quick pit stop in the room to grab some water, and called Kaycee. We decided to meet her over at the Swan to make sure we all got on the same bus. I stopped over to the Dolphin to make another attempt to figure out the mystery package to no avail (again, if you sent me a package, thank you, but I have no clue what it was, as I never received it).
We then headed over to the Animal Kingdom. It was extra magic hours night. We went to the back of the park, and found a spot to watch the Jammin Jungle Parade, which none of us had ever seen. We also got our wrist bands for the extra magic hours. While we were waiting for the parade, we got to meet the Queen. I cant remember her name, but she told me I pronounced it correctly.
We all really enjoyed the parade. It reminded us a bit of Tapestry of Nations. At one point we each got special attention from a cast member. Kaycee got a big hug from one of the characters, one of the characters loved Lily, and I got to dance with one of the guys on stilts. It was nice to see so many families in the parade--there was one guy who was just having a blast riding on the float, and I enjoyed watching him. Overall, I loved this parade, and will try to catch it again in the future.
After the parade, we headed over to the Safari, where we hoped to ride with the DISs own SyracuseWolverine. He had just taken a break when we got in line, so they told us to come back in 20 minutes. We walked along the Pagani Trail, and sat on a bench and relaxed for a spell. We then used some fast passes to get in to ride with SyracuseWolverine. We had to wait about 10 more minutes before he drove up in the truck.
SyracuseWolverine was an excellent guide. He did a great job of spotting the animals for us, and was very attentive to his group. I highly recommend trying to take a tour with him!
After the Safari, we went to see the Festival of the Lion King. Neither Lily or Kaycee had seen it before, so it was something we had to do. This is one of my favorite shows on Disney property. Its so much fun. The cast is fantastic. We were in the last row of our section, so I stood up, clapped, and sang along throughout the performance. We all really enjoyed it.
We then made our way to Dinoland. We went on Primeval Whirl twice in a row. Let me tell you that our second ride was soooooooo spinny that we were all dizzy by the time we got up! I could barely stand. But we had a blast, and we laughed throughout both rides.
We then headed towards Dinosaur. Lily heard a Mickey Bar calling her name (and I swear it really did call her name--I heard it), so she skipped the ride while Kaycee and I went on. We road the ride with a mom, dad, and their daughter, who appeared to be around 10. The daughter was petrified from the get go, and cried throughout the ride. Poor thing.
After Dinosaur, hunger struck, and our next quest was to head over to Downtown Disney to have dinner at the Earl of Sandwich (must have sandwich). We were trying to figure out our best route to Downtown Disney, and we opted to take the bus to Old Key West, and then take a boat to Downtown Disney. It wasnt the quickest way, but we made the best of it and had fun. The boat ride took forever, and I couldnt help but break into the theme song from Gilligans Island (or at least the words I could remember to the song). We were all starving, and I swear I was getting delirious from the hunger.
When we finally made it off the boat, we immediately headed to the Earl of Sandwich. I got the original roast beef sandwich (substituting ranch sauce for the horse radish sauce), a side salad, and potato salad. Lily got the Caribbean Jerk Chicken Sandwich. Kaycee got the Caprice. Lily and Kaycee made it right through the line, but it took me forever to get my salad dressing and paid for my food. The were sitting close to ten minutes by the time I got to the table. But the wait was worth it. The sandwiches were incredible, and I really enjoyed my salad. The potato salad was just OK.
After dinner, we went to the World of Disney to do some shopping. Do not ever wear a golden guest of honor badge to the World of Disney unless you like people coming over and asking you lots of questions. I had close to a half dozen people ask me where they could find items, or to look for another size for an item on display. I bought some stencils and a polo shirt, and was ready to go.
Lily and I said goodbye, and headed over to the Adventurers Club for a while. By this time, the two nights of four hours of sleep were starting to catch up to me, so I was pretty tired. But I did enjoy the club. I had been planning on getting a drink there, but I was so tired, that I decided liquor would not be a good idea, so I stuck with diet coke.
Lily and I then headed back to the Boardwalk. I watched the end of the Amazing Race, and we were in bed shortly after 11:00 p.m. I had another busy day planned tomorrow, so it was probably a good thing that I went to bed early.
