Day 4—Sunday, May 2, 2004

I woke up early to head to early entry at the Magic Kingdom. I went to the food court to fill my mug. I ran into a new DIS friend, BonnieWW and her husband Tom, there. I can’t remember exactly when I first ran into Bonnie, but it was on a pathway in the POFQ. Tom had noticed my DIS pin, and he pointed it out to Bonnie. I ran into Bonnie repeatedly during my trip, and always enjoyed chatting with her!

I met Bavaria in front of Space Mountain. I continued the tradition of singing “It’s A Small World” on Space Mountain, which I started doing with my niece last August. Bavaria giggled throughout the ride at my singing (and surprisingly, I didn’t lose my voice). After Space Mountain, Bavaria and I headed over to ride Peter Pan. We also road on Thunder Mountain, Splash Mountain, and the Tommorrowland Transit Authority.

While I was on the TTA, I got a phone call from KingsFanInRI. He was supposed to meet me and the One_Cats for dinner at Mama Melrose’s and Fantasmic. Unfortunately, they had to cancel, as his little one got sick during the trip. I called WDW-DINE, and they let me cancel Paul’s reservation with no penalty.

Bavaria drove me back to the POFQ. I grabbed lunch at the food court, using a voucher. I had a yummy steak and cheese sandwich with fries, a dish of vanilla ice cream, and some water (I had my refillable mug, so no need to pay for soda). I really enjoyed my sandwich—it was made to order, and piping hot. Yummy!

After lunch, I went to take a dip in the pool. Although there were quite a few people at the pool, I didn’t have any problems finding a chair. I never felt crowded in the pool. I enjoyed watching the kids go down the slide, and swimming around to look at the alligator statues.

After my swim, I went back to my room to get ready for another big night out. I took a bus over to MGM, and had about 90 minutes to kill before I had to meet the One_Cats. I decided to take a ride on the Tower of Terror, and I ran into the One_Cats on my way there! Someone had given the One_Cats some fast passes for the Tower of Terror, so I road on that with Mr. One_Cat. We then went on the Rock ‘N Roller Coaster, and the Great Movie Ride.

We then headed over to Mama Melrose’s for dinner. We got a modified chicken pizza with red sauce instead of the pesto sauce (because I don’t like pesto). We had the foliage salad that they serve with the meal. I can’t remember what the One_Cats had for dinner, but I had chicken parm, and it was just OK, nothing special. For dessert, I got ice cream instead of tiramisu. I have to say that I was disappointed in the Fantasmic dinner package at Mama Melrose’s. The last time I did the package there, they let you choose your dessert if you didn’t like tiramisu. If you didn’t like it this time, your only option was a small dish of ice cream. I didn’t feel that the package was as good of a value as it used to be. Next time, I’ll stick with Hollywood and Vine.

After dinner, we walked around the park, not sure what we wanted to do. We wound up doing some shopping, and watching the Beauty and the Beast show. We then headed over to catch Fantasmic. The skies were looking pretty threatening. I told the One_Cats that if it started raining, I would be heading for a nice, dry bar (a.k.a. Jellyrolls). As we sat waiting for the show to start, the lightening started to pick up. It was getting pretty bad, and I didn’t think the show would be going on, so I told the One_Cats that I was heading to the bar. As I was walking out, I heard them announce that Fantasmic would be cancelled, so I got a bit of a head start on the crowd. Everyone was rushing out, trying to beat the rain. When we got to the gate where you enter for the Fantasmic dinner packages, they made us walk out another gate. I had the people near me cracking up because I said, “God forbid we don’t walk by the souvenir shops on the way out.”

I then walked quickly to the Boardwalk, hoping with all my heart that I would beat the rain. I walked with a really nice woman and her son. We made the walk in record time—I’d say we walked it in about 10 minutes—nothing speeds a person up like the threat of a torrential downpour, thunder, and lightning. And we beat the rain! Woofreakinghoo!

At last, I was in my nice dry bar. I took my regular bar stool in the back of the bar and waited for the One_Cats to show up. Scotty walked by and said hello, and he was a bit surprised to see me there that early, as I had told him I was going to Fantasmic that evening, and wouldn’t be there to late.

The One_Cats showed up a little while later, and they experienced Jellyrolls from the back of the bar. They are used to being up front, but I like being in the back sometimes because you get a great view of the stage, and you can blend into the background. Tommy, Jason, Scotty, and Ray were the players that night. The best part of the night, no Drew :)

The One_Cats left shortly after midnight, and after they left, my good night turned a bit bad. Late in the evening, some guy came and sat next to me. He was making lewd comments and gestures (I won’t go into all the details—afterall this is a family board). He walked away from me, got a beer, and came back to me. I was doing my best to ignore him while I watched my beloved Scotty and Ray play. He walked away from me again, and I decided I would make my dash from the bar before the night ended. As soon as I got my bag, and got ready to go, the creepy guy came back and sat back to me. There was no way I was going to be leaving that bar by myself that night.

As soon as Scotty and Ray finished their last song, and the lights went on, I walked over to Scotty, gave him a big hug, and asked him if he saw the guy who sat down next to me. I told Scotty about what happened, and he noticed the guy was standing there looking at us. Scotty asked me if I wanted him to get someone to walk me out of the bar. Scotty must have noticed I was shaking a bit because he said, “Wait right here. I’ll walk you out myself.”

Scotty was very sweet about walking me out. It was pouring rain out, and he was very concerned about me getting wet. He was going to let me use his umbrella (but I had one), and then he found places for us to walk undercover. When I started rambling about the creepy guy, he changed the subject. He seemed genuinely concerned about me, and wanted to make sure I was going to be all right before he left me. It was incredibly to sweet of him, and needless to say, he was my hero for the night :)

When I got back to my room, I just paced around the room trying to shake of the sleaze of the evening. I still feel like I need a shower after telling that story.

Sorry about the creepy guy! I don't recall seeing creepy guy magnet pasted on your forehead......but soemhow you sure seemed to attract tehm this trip, huh? Hmmm...maybe I need to rethink that solo December trip....

Can't wait to hear about the next day!!!

And you heard me talk about most of the details of creepy guy, Liz. I sugar coated it here. He was scary.

I am really enjoying reading your trip reports. Sorry your fantasmic show was cancelled. That happened to us on easter day too. We high tailed it out of mgm before the storm again. Wow, I am glad you survived that creep geek. Sure hope you never ran into him again. I am glad we stuck with hollywood and vine this time too. I really wanted to try mama melrose, I would have taken any fantasmic pkg. but they were all sold out.

Several years ago, a girlfriend and I went on a solo trip to WDW and went to Jellyrolls...sat on the front and a group of coaches were in several tables beside us and they kept hitting on us...we tried to be polite at first and even one of the piano players told them to give up and leave us alone. Finally, we were fed up and left...ruined our girls night out. Our DH's were not too happy about it, but they knew we could handle ourselves. I just didn't get why these guys felt like they had the "right" to even approach us to begin with...too much to drink I guess. The worse thing is that I just don't enjoy Jellyrolls as much now and I think that incident is the reason...

luvmarypoppins--Glad to hear you are enjoying my trip reports. I tend to think that everyone would find them boring. I tend to be a bit long winded.

I was afraid that creepy guy would show up at the bar again on Monday night. Before I realized that he was creepy, I had mentioned that I go to Jellyrolls a lot. I had briefly (for like a millisecond) considered not going on Monday night because I was afraid that creepy guy would be there. But, I wasn't going to let creepy guy ruin my fun :) I don't know if Scotty said something to some of the folks at Jellyrolls or not, but everyone seemed extra attentive to me on Monday night.

Sorry to hear about your bad Jellyrolls experience, Melanieewr. As Scotty said to me the night after I had the incident with creepy guy, they get all kinds there (of course you get that in any bar). I know that when you are sitting in a bar by yourself, you leave yourself open for guys to hit on you, but this guy just went too far. When I told my cousin about the creepy guy, and mentioned he went and got himself a beer, she was ticked off that he was hitting on me and didn't even offer to buy me a drink (not that I would have accepted).

I really edited the incident for my trip report (considered not even putting it in there, but felt that I should put it in there--even bad things are part of a trip sometimes). I've told a more detailed version to some folks, but I haven't told anyone the entire story. It was a lot creepier and scarier than I've let on to anyone. Nine days later, it still completely skieves me out.

But it won't keep me from going back to my favorite place :)
