Day 2--Friday, April 30, 2004

I woke up early to head to the Animal Kingdom. Animal Kingdom is usually known as Karen's grumpy day, and this trip to the Animal Kingdom was no different. I had plans to meet the One_Cats later in the morning to have lunch at the Rainforest Cafe, but I wanted to hit a few attractions before I met them. It was early entry day at Animal Kingdom, and I arrived at the park at about 8:30 a.m. I wandered around the park until the Dinoland section opened at 8:45, and went immediately to Primeval Whirl, and took a spin. I then went on Triceritops Spin, which was the only Disney ride I had never been on--I figured there was no line, and I'm a big kid, so I went on. I took a second spin on Primeval Whirl.

I headed over to catch the first performance of the Festival of the Lion King. I really love this show--I think it's the best stage show on Disney property. I always catch this show when I go to the Animal Kingdom, and it never disappoints. I like that they have enclosed and air conditioned the venue. It sure could get hot in there.

After the show, I was one of the first people to exit, and I made a beeline to spend some time with my favorite character, Goofy, who was dressed up in his fishing gear. Goofy took my hand and kissed. I pretended that my heart was a-fluttering, and Goofy pretended to be embarrassed.

I then went to Pizzafari to wait for the One_Cats. While I was waiting for them, some people stopped and asked me if I was a cast member. I told them I was not, but I would be happy to try to answer their question. They wanted to know how to get to the safari, so I gave them directions (and I even used the two finger point). You know you've gone to Disney too many times when you don't even need a park map to give someone exact directions to an attraction.

When the One_Cats arrived, we went and grabbed some Fast Passes for the safari. We then browsed in the shops as we walked towards the Rainforest Cafe for our priority seating. This is where Animal Kingdom day turned to Karen's grumpy day.

Seinfeld had the soup nazi. The Rainforest Cafe at the Animal Kingdom has a line nazi. As soon as we walked in, she was saying, "You can't get into this line without checking in. If you haven't checked in, please get out of line." So, we went to check in, and when we went back over to her and said, "Is it all right if we come see you now?" The woman said, "If you checked in. Please make sure your entire party is here, and stays in the line, and does not leave the line."

We waited in that line for about 15 minutes. We watched as tons of people were taken into the restaurant. Some of the people had walked in after us. One_Cat finally asked when we would be seated. We were finally taken into the restaurant, and put in another line, only to find out that the hostess took us to the wrong room. She then took us to the right room, and we had to wait while they cleaned off a table for us. There were empty tables around, but they were closed.

Our sweet waiter Brendan from Massachusetts came to take our order. Mrs. One_Cat and I had salads. Mr. One_Cat had chicken fried chicken and shrimp. While we were waiting for our order, Brendan came over and told us that the computers had crashed, and we may have to wait 30-60 minutes to get our food. Our food arrived in about a half hour. We all enjoyed our lunches, but none of us had room left for dessert.

After lunch, we headed to the safari. We were hoping to ride with the DIS's very own PandyPaws, but she was on a break, and wasn't going to be driving a truck after that. So, we had to ride with someone else, and we never did get to see PandyPaws. I felt a few drops coming down while we were on the safari, and shortly after, the rain started really coming down. The One_Cats ran for cover, but I continued to the park exit, as I had to get ready for my night out at Boma and Jellyroll's.

I was soaked by the time I got to the POFQ. The maid was working on my room, so I had to wait while she finished it up. By the time I got into my room and got ready to head to the Animal Kingdom Lodge for dinner, it was too late to take Disney transportation to the hotel. I wound up taking a cab, and it cost me $17. Yikes!

I met KatyPop and Bavaria at the Animal Kingdom Lodge. I had never been to the Lodge before, and I was looking forward to checking it out. We spent a lot of time walking around the Lodge. I was surprised to see how close the animals are to the rooms. My niece would really love this resort, as she loves animals. The lobby was gorgious. I really liked the animal carvings on the second floor railings.

We then went to Boma for dinner. We were enjoying a lovely meal. The food was quite good--some of it a bit odd for my taste, but most of it very good. I was also enjoying the company of my new friend KatyPop, and my old friend Bavaria. We really seemed to hit it off, and we all enjoyed our conversation.

So, I go up to the buffet to get another plate of food, and I just couldn't resist the kids section of the buffet. So, I take a chicken strip (I can't pass by Disney chicken strips), and some macaroni and cheese. I go back to the table, and take a bite of the macaroni and cheese and realize that it's not very good. It was just very bland. It wasn't very cheesey.

So, me being me, I start joking around with Bavaria and Katypop. I tell them that it wasn't the best macaroni and cheese I've ever had, and that it just isn't very good. Well, the waiter happened to be walk by to check up on us, and I jokingly complain about the macaroni and cheese.

The waiter didn't catch on that I was joking, so next thing you know, he brings a chef over to talk to me about the macaroni and cheese. The chef tells me he wanted to see if everything was all right because our waiter told him that I wasn't happy with the macaroni and cheese. I told the chef that it wasn't the best macaroni and cheese I've ever had--it just wasn't cheesey enough. The chef caught on pretty quickly that I was joking around, but we spent close to 10 minutes talking about the macaroni and cheese.

Next thing you know, the waiter brings us over a tray of truffles that says "Welcome to Boma." It had gummi bears and Mickey sprinkles on it. It was pretty neat looking. It had little disc chocolates with zebras and giraffes on them.

I then went up to the buffet again to get some fruit and dessert. One of the other chefs walks over to me and asks if everything is all right. I said, "Did you hear about me?" She says she didn't hear anything about me. I said, "When you came over to make sure everything was all right, I figured that you heard about the person who jokingly complained about the macaroni and cheese." The chef we had talked to about the mac and cheese came over, and we joked around about it. He also dragged the chef who actually made the macaroni and cheese over as well.

As I left Boma, I saw a manager, so I told him that I love his staff--especially Chef Mike and Waiter Victor. I told him I was the woman who was jokingly complaining about the macaroni and cheese.

Overall, my experience at Boma was very interesting (both the food and the mac and cheese incident). I'll have to try it again sometime, but next time, I'll skip the mac and cheese.

After dinner, Bavaria drove us over to the Boardwalk. KatyPop and I said goodbye to Bavaria, and headed to Jellyrolls, while Bavaria went to Epcot. KatyPop and I chose a table right down front. Christian and Drew came onstage to get ready to perform, and I started teasing Christian about having the day of the week wrong the previous night. On Thursday night, he had said it was Wednesday. So, he made a comment about me being at Jellyrolls, and I said, "What else am I going to be do on a Thursday night?" (remember it's Friday). Christian said, "We haven't even started playing yet, and I already have a heckler." I joked that they needed to have a list of the days of the week on Christian piano, and highlight the day.

The One_Cats arrived midway through Drew and Christian's first set. I put my first request on the piano--paying $5 to hear "Love Shack." It's not a song that I really like, but Christian does a great job on it. As soon as I put the request up, Christian said it was a sensitive song. Christian and Drew proceed to make fun of my request, and I say, "But Christian does a great job on it." They continue to make fun of my request, and I say, "Would it be easier if I just took my money back?" Drew told me that I wasn't allowed to take money back once it was on the piano.

Scotty and Ray came onstage after an hour of Drew and Chris, and I was a much happier Jellyrolls patron. I immediately laid three requests on Scotty's piano--"Big Yellow Taxi," "Buttercup," and a special surprise for a special event. I always request "Big Yellow Taxi" when Ray is playing because he does a great night on it, but tonight, Ray made fun of the request, so I guess I won't be making that one anymore. The One_Cats and I decided that I shouldn't request songs anymore--I should stick with just throwing money on the pianos.

After Ray finished "Big Yellow Taxi," Scotty decided to take care of the first part of my special request, which we had discussed the night before. You see, the One_Cats made the mistake of telling me that they had an anniversary coming up, so of course, I had to arrange some embarrassment for them to help them celebrate. When I left the request, I wrote, "Shawn and Wendy are celebrating their tenth anniversary, and they love It's a Small World." So Scotty tells Ray that they have a request for some Disney music, so Ray starts playing "It's A Small World" and asks, "Is that it?" Scotty said, "Yes." Rays says, "Who is the drunk who requested that?" Scotty says, "It's not that. It's Shawn and Wendy's tenth anniversary and they love It's A Small World." Everyone awwwwwws, and Ray says, "I'm sorry for making fun of your ride."

One_Cat tells Scotty that I made them ride on It’s A Small World four times, and Scotty says to me, “So you love It’s A Small World. Everyone loves It’s A Small World. Then Scotty says, “If you ride It’s a Small World four times in a row, you are really tempted to spend the rest of your trip in a bar.” Scotty and Ray then performed “It’s A Small World” for the One_Cats. At the end of the night, Scotty asked me if I really made the One_Cats ride on It’s A Small World four times.

Later in the evening, Christian and Drew dragged the One_Cats to do the Tree Dance (And the green grass grows all around, all around, and the green grass grows all around). The One_Cats did a great job on the dance, and I have pictures to blackmail them in the future ;)

KatyPop left the bar around midnight, and the One_Cats left shortly there after, but I couldn’t leave before Scotty and Ray were done playing for the evening. After everyone else had left, some drunk woman who was partying with a group, comes over, drags me out of my seat, and makes me dance with her and her friends. When I got up, Scotty says, “Shake it, Karen.”

When Scotty and Ray were done playing, I said goodbye to Scotty, and headed back to the hotel to get some sleep. I wanted to be up in about five hours to head to MGM for early entry.

Um, may I just say that I was glad that this time it wasn't ME complaining about the food.........

It was quite funny though, and I think that we may have embarassed poor katypop a little!

I never did make it to experience TLinden's beloved Jellyrolls since we split up so that I could watch yet another show by my mime in France, but got caught in torrential rain instead.

Wow you are like a disney energizer bunny, just keep going and going. Guess what? We had Brendan too for our waiter at the Rainforest too. He was really sweet. If you read my restraunt reviews it said he dumped a nice big coke on ds 14. He offered to get him a dry shirt, clothes etc. But ds said no, but he did get his lunch comped. I think Brendan is a real sweetie. Glad you loved the boma mac and cheese;)

Bavaria passed up on Jellyrollls two nights! When will she ever learn that it's a lot nicer in a warm dry bar than a pouring rainy Epcot?
