Cast of Characters:
Jana (moi, 40, obsessive planner of this and all trips..think Chevy Chase in the Vacation movies.)
Eric (DH, 41, a big kid at heart, pretty much goes with the flow and can have a good time anywhere as long as theres good food.)
Anna Marie (4 year-old DD and true princess any princess...pick one.)
Planning or Obsession Whats the Difference?
Ok..Ill try this. This is my first trip report, so Ill give it my best shot. First of all, when it comes to vacations, Im all details and Im all into planning. To me, 70% of the enjoyment of the trip actually happens during the planning stages. DH thinks thats nuts and no matter how hard I try to get him into it, he still has to be within a 3 month range of departure before he actually gets excited. Ironically, I began planning this trip 10 months earlier while on a previous vacation at Myrtle Beach. DH informed me that he would be hosting a business reception in Orlando around the next Memorial Day and would I like to travel down with him. Hmmm Orlando...home of the Mouse and all that pixie dust and we have a DD that will have just turned 4 by that time and will well be into the princess stuff and it would be our first trip to the World as a family .YES!! Count me in baby! Just tell me when to be ready! Ok, so immediately, I head to the nearest bookstore in Myrtle Beach (which is a fantastic and huge Barnes and Noble BTW we dont have any of those in WV and I HAVE to have at least a 2 hour visit to one when I see it) but ANYWAY I load up on every travel book imaginable on everything Disney. Birnbaum, Official Guide, and lest us not forget the ever-popular Passporter. LOVE that book my Disney bible. Let the planning begin!
We normally go to the beach for our vacations and I was somewhat hesitant to give that up. Im a Pisces and if I dont hear the sound of the ocean at least once a year, well, then- I get a little crazy. So, the idea of a Disney vacation didnt really appeal to me. Wed just go down for a little trip, accompany my DH on his business outing for the weekend, see a few princesses, ride Dumbo or whatever, come home and then plan a real vacation to the beach. We were just going to get a clean but inexpensive room offsite and save our money for Myrtle. Then I found the DIS boards, and life as I once knew it changed! Lets just say that I bought one of those relaxation ocean CDs to quell my need for the tides and Im looking into DVC. Hello. My name is Jana and Im a Disneyaholic. Our original trip of 3 nights offsite morphed into 8 nights at CBR, then 9 at CBR, and then finally a switch to the Contemporary! And I would have tacked on an extra night except the cost was too high to change my plane ressies. So 9 nights at the Contemporary it was! And I couldnt wait!!
