We have yet to ride Kali River Rapids for the fear of getting drenched and having to walk around the park in soggy clothes/shoes. I would love to try it on our upcoming trip. Any tips for this ride would be greatly appreciated.

Get yourself a poncho! if you forget yours, they sell them at the entrace. I know your required to keep your shoes on while riding, but maybe you can bring a set of flip flops to change into and put your shoes and socks in the little holder thingy in the middle of the raft that keeps things dry.

If you really want to stay dry on this ride, bring me with you. I always wind up sitting where the water cascades over me, and wind up bone-soakingly drenched!

When I go on this now, I try to either make it my last ride of the day, or I bring a change of clothes. I also tend to wear sandals on my Animal Kingdom day.

My son takes off his sneaks everytime & they've never said anything to him - Hmmm, maybe this is new.....

We wear Teva's river runners on our AK days. It's so hot there, that we enjoy getting wet to cool down & don't miss an opportunity to do so. The Teva's are made to be in & out of water.

Also, I carry a couple of ziploc baggies in my backpack that we slip cameras, wallets, etc... in to keep safe & dry.

Ponchos always work great for us! :D

You will certainly get wet. Ponchos work pretty well although some water always seems to get on clothing anyway. Shoes and socks will get drenched. We have wrung water out of every article of clothing in the past (without ponchos). I agree with everyone that said where sandals. We did so last trip. We also found that microfiber shorts (easy to find mens anywhere, harder to find womens but they are out there) they dry within minutes of getting wet. We do sandals and microfiber on our AK days.

Me and my daughter went on that ride, wore ponchos and barely got wet except for some splashes!! We were always on the opposite side of the waterfalls. I think our feet were wet though, we both had sandals on so it didn't affect us.

I've never gone, but someone please tell me if this is a dumb idea.

I plan on wearing nylon swim trunks in the park with a light t-shirt and teva sandals. My kids (3-girls) are planning on wearing their swim suits covered with a light pair of nylon shorts and a light t-shirt and teva sandals.

It won't bother me too much if I have a wet t-shirt. If my girls need to, they'll be able to take off their t-shirt and still have on their swim suit tops.

Similar to the poncho trick- I brought a garbage bag that I had cut holes out for head and arms. Yes, dorky looking and I got a few stares but when I exited and others saw how soaked my fellow rafters were, they understood. Worked great as I just put it on before getting into the raft and then when exiting, just took it off and threw it away in the trashcan that was right by the exit.

I wore sandals too and the combo of the big garbage bag and sandals, I only got minimally wet.

Oh- don't cut the neck hole really big- works better if you have to stretch it as you put your head through this keeping the hole relatively small- if you cut it too big, you will get wet down your back if you end up under a spray or fall.

Great ride!

:D

The last time I was on it, I wore my bathing suit to the park. I had a tank top on during the ride and put on a t-shirt on after. I was dry within a few minutes while everyone else i saw was soaked. You might want to buy a poncho if you don't like my idea. Either way, it's better than walking around dripping wet.

We too have worn swimsuits under our clothes, then headed over to one of the water parks or back to our resort for a swim when we were finished. I would never wear a rain poncho, after all, isn't the point of riding it to get wet?! Definitely wear or change into sandles, because they won't let you take off your shoes any longer(health department concerns).

I definitely agree Laura. I don't mean to sound rude, but it is a water ride. We got soaked the first time we rode it. We had waited until we were about to leave the park though. We were all 4 soaking wet.

I wouldn't want to walk around wet all day either, so that is why we chose to ride it right before we left the park.:earsgirl: :earsboy:

I don't understand everyone, the point of the ride is to GET WET. I agree with all the previous people, wear swim trunks, change of clothes, TEVAS are great for this ride.

The first year my son and I went on it 6 times in a row so that we could get the water to cascade over us, just once. Not getting wet or the thrill of wondering if you are going to get wet would be TOT without any drops, Dinosaur with the lights on a 5 MPH, etc.

Take the risk, have a back up plan for dry clothes. We always make it the last thing we do at AK.

After riding Kali River Rapids last November I saw a dad drying out his young son's briefs under one of the hand dryers in a nearby restroom! It was one of those POWER dryers, so I bet it didn't take long to finish that job!

I could be dead wrong here - but I think they need to be wearing a shirt over their swim top. (a tank top at the very least).

am I wrong here? i know it's ok to walk around the water parks clad only in a bathing suit...but isn't a top required at the theme parks?

bump,

Does anyone know for sure? It would seem to me, material is material regardless if it's swimsuit material or a cotton shirt. OK, maybe polyester should be banned :teeth:

And more than likely, my 4-year old will be wearing a little mermaid 1-piece so it's not like we won't be promoting disney.::MinnieMo

The Kali River Rapids is our family's favourite ride. The first time we rode it we got soaked and walked around the park all day soaking wet (not nice). But now we have a much simpler solution...

Just inside the park entrance gate (on the left) are some restrooms and lockers you can rent. Take a change of clothing (shorts, t-shirt, etc) and a towell each. Put them in the locker as you enter the park. Go and get a Fastpass for the River Rapids then queue up in the regular line and go on it. With luck the Fastpass time will have arrived by then & you can go straight back on. You will still be soaked from the first ride, of course, but the second one is even better ! (really wet!)

Then go back to the locker, get dried & changed in the restroom, and put the wet towell & clothes back in the locker.

Then you are completely dry and can enjoy the rest of your day in the park!

We do this every time - it's great!

You will get soaked on this ride, if you sit in the right spot-- is it just me or is it only a select few that get wet? There have been times when I am the only one getting off the raft SOAKED and other times when I'm just a little bit wet--oh well--it's still a fun ride. We make this the last ride at the AK-wet clothes are not fun :)

During our last trip, I was not allowed to put my shoes in the storage area. (I had always done this before, but the CM said too many people were doing it and taking up all of the storage space with their shoes.) Not only that, but I made the mistake of wearing jean shorts and I got wetter than I have ever gotten on this ride. I guess I had been spoiled by not getting drenched in the past. I will be more prepared next time! :)

My dd and I had to go to the ladies room near the ride and use those blow dryers for our clothes. They really didn't work as well as someone suggested. It's a good thing we were not planning to be at AK very long that morning.

If it was in a water park, I would agree. This is why we've never ridden this attraction. I was hoping to time a fastpass for this attraction so we would be ready to leave when we were done.
