Kali River Rapids or Splash Mountain

The day we arrive is the last day for both these rides. (jan. 3) Our flight lands at noon, and our plan was to go to the resort and then head to MK which is open till 1am.
However since the announcement of Kali River Rapids being closed the day we go, we are trying to decide if it is worth heading the AK first thing, and then going to MK and trying to do Splash Mountain before the night is over. ( or we pass out)

What would you do???

From what I read, they are closed for refurbishment 1/3 - 1/29. Does this mean that 1/3 is the last day open or the first day closed?

Splash Mountain!! Kali was ok but you can get soaked and there isn't as much to see as there is on Splash and the drop is just fun fun. Have a great trip

Splash Mountain definitely!! I haven't been on Kali the last 3 times we've gone! But I did do Splash Mountain in Jan. of 09 in 40 degree weather!!

I'm afraid the bad news is that January 3 is the first day that both rides are closed.

As the PP said...they are scheduled to be closed starting on 1/3 Sorry to break the news. I will say, KRR gets you SOAKED Most wouldn't want to ride it with the current weather at WDW unless you wore a poncho that covered your legs entirely. Splash Mountain is a bummer, we are missing it too this trip, as it opens 2 days after we leave!

Um, while I might actually ride Splash Mountain in January (although it is usually don't when we go in January/February) You couldn't pay me enough to ride KRR!!! We made that mistake one year and my then 4 year old almost drowned! No kidding, she had that one special seat where the huge wave comes right over your head and knocks you out... being only four and nervous anyway... let's just say it didn't go very well and I will likely never get her one it again.

Maybe if had been a hot summer day it would have been different....

I would suggest what you planned - go to AK and do KR, then head to MK and do Splash; just so you can experience both (if it's even an option).

But as people said Kali is just a river rapid ride, not much more. But if you are like me, you would want to seize the opportunity and decide for yourself.

But Splash is very heavily themed with Disney Magic. Splash is one of my favorite rides to ride with my 6 year old. In August we went on it about 6 times throughout the week.

Really sorry that they will be closed for you. Splash Mountain is our (my and my 2 teen-aged boys) favorite ride!! We love it! KRR is kind of fun, but not even in the same league as Splash imho.

I'd say Splash. Kali was fun for me in winter, but I'm fairly certain they have a lot less of the splash going on in the colder months, and that's really the only appeal of Kali.

That said, as others said, I think you're kinda out of luck with both .

I would pick Splash Mtn too but too bad they both will be closed... I went in Jan. before and I was freezing after riding SM all soaking wet... and I'm from Buffalo and know the cold very well but even being wet when the temps are in the 50s and its not sunny sucks! Go to MK anyway because that's always a great start to a trip. And I love the suprise video, we suprised my DD a few years ago the morning we were leaving, we didnt tell her till we got to the airport.
