what is up with this ride?

this attraction has never been a great one. It was however "okay" from my memories of when it opened.

unfortunantly, now it's just sad. has anyone ridden it lately?

the almost dense fog that used to be on the lift hill is now over...:confused3

everyone remember the large fountain that shot into the air once you arrived at the top of the lift hill?

hasn't been working my past two visits.

also the fire effects seem to be less intense now.

whats going on here? anybody care to give any insight? :veryconfu

I have seen some videos on you tube, which Kali River Rapids does not have the effect of fog on the rise, it seems that all videos are done in the winter months, someone knows why.
Winter times removes the effect of fog, or is it pure coincidence? :confused3

Thank you.

Oh I had no idea ... we didn't ride in on our last trip so I'll be interested in what people share:)

Thanks for the video, I had forgotten how lame this ride is.

Probably for the same reason that they turn off some of the water cannons on Splash Mountain in the winter months; people don't want to be as wet in the cooler temps.

Not sure about your winter theory, but both of those elements were working when we rode last week.

WDW reduces water effects in cold weather. They don't want everyone cold and miserable, because then guests are more likely to leave the parks and go change or hang out at the heated resort pools instead of spending money in the parks.

Agree with some of the PPs - went on the Back Lot Tour (not my favorite but did it for the grandkids) and there were no audience volunteers. I could have come back and complained about that but realized it was because the temps were predicted to be 45 degrees that day (and I highly doubt they were that high) and there's no way there would be anyone comfortable getting soaked at 11:00 AM that particular day.

I guess we all live in glass houses because I can guarantee no one on these boards does anything 100% perfectly every single day at their jobs. Or at home.

We were there in August 2011 and they didn't have any audience volunteers, even though it was very hot out. I don't know if it was just that day or a change to the show.

We haven't ridden it in a couple of years, but plan on doing it on our next trip. I am guessing the affects will be turned on when we go, but of course you never know. I know some people don't really care for this ride, however we like it, it has a great theme to it.

I love getting soaking wet on this ride sadly the ride is very boring, I prefer the similar ride at Island of Adventure.

As others have said, they do turn down the water effects during the colder months. In fact, i a saw on one of my Behind the Scenes video, that they also can lower the water level so that the splashes aren't as big when you go down hills. I love it. I am not there in the hot months, so while I still love to ride it, its not fun when you get soaked when its cold outside. Of course, you still can get pretty wet, just not as wet :thumbsup2

They were doing audience volunteers in October of 2011. It may have just been that something was up.

We noticed this July that the water cannons at Splash weren't working. We desperately wanted to get wet and walked off pretty dry. I didn't notice anything different on Kali, but we were paying closer attention to the water effects at Splash. I wonder if this is another cutback to save energy/money???

This ride is so weenie it gives weenies a bad name.

You might get drenched on that big drop. Other than that, dull dull dull.

I don't know about the 'effects' but we rode 3 times in a row back in May. Got totally soaked each time & can't wait to ride again in a couple weeks
As for Splash, in all the umpteenth times I have ridden it, I've never gotten more than just a sprinkle wet??? And we've been all times of the year.

I like KRR, but I tend to only ride it if it's over 80 degrees, because I'm not really lucky on it. I did used to wear a poncho, but that's just being a wimp. I guess that in two weeks time it will be so hot I'll want to get wet.

Just want to say that we love this ride. My kids think it is great, especially because no matter how many time we ride, my littlest son is always the one who gets that huge splash at the end.
