Yes that last time that I went was all the way in July ( and i my next trip will probably be in '05  )

Anyway when we went in Kali River Rapids .. they didn't let us take off our shoes ( I did anyway 'Cause i wasn't getting my shoes wet) But we were thinking that it was for safety reasons but we were just guessing.. I dont see why they wouldn't let you take your shoes off.. Anyway does anyone know the real reason why you aren't allowed to have your shoes off?

I think they don't let you take shoes off
1 safety reasons
2 everyone uses the bins for their shoes and anyone with bags can't fit bags into the bins!
this has happened to me on a few occassions people got the shoes in the bins and when I got on my bag wouldn't fit and had to hold sown the cover which was hard !

You can keep your feet on the railing in an efort to keep the feet dry which is what I usually do and my feet have stayed dry along with the rest of me! for some reason I have lucked out in not getting soaked!!

if you REALLY want to take the shoes off... change into pool shoes.

Agreed on pool shoes/tevas type shoes for the ride - I find putting feet on the railing to be sufficient

Any chance that loose shoes have fallen into the river and hence the rule now?

thanks

I would guess health concerns also come into play, along with safety. I personally think it's gross when people take their shoes off and I'm glad to see Disney making and enforcing the rule. I've ridden Kali dozens of times, probably about half of them I get the big drenching, and have never taken my shoes off. I keep my feet on the bar and have never gotten them more than splashed, even when the rest of me gets soaked.

I think it just falls into that "no shirt, no shoes, no service" rule that they have in most public places. I plan on bringing flip-flops for the kids and I to change into right before we get in line for Kali (and Splash and any other wet places). I know it will be a bit of a pain in the neck to carry these in the backpack all day, but better than having wet feet!! And DD and DS will be wearing bathing suits under their clothes probably and will take off their clothes before they ride. AFter they ride we will hit the bathrooms, put on dry undies and dry clothes, and be ready to go for the rest of the day!! I know lots of people wear the ponchos over their clothes to stay dry. But if it is not tucked in good around you, you will still get wet (especially your butt!).
