Kali River Rapids and other Water Rides Tips?

What are your best tips for tackling the water rides?

The most common tip is probably to wear a poncho, but our family is not poncho people, so we usually go on Kali River Rapids (I just said Kali River Rapids because you can get wet on Splash Mountain, but not uncomfortably wet, like on Kali) last. That way, we can leave right away, and change into dry clothes as soon as we get back to our room.

We keep a grocery bag folded up in the side pocket of our purse since we don't like to carry around a big bag. When we go on we slip it out and tie it around the bag, it is a little rain coat for our purse and works like a charm every time. The grocery bag folded takes up hardly any space and is very light to carry.

Wear Teva sandals (if you have them). They are super comfortable and easy to walk around in, and nothing is worse than wet sneakers.

If your family is a bag-carrying kind of family, wear your bathing suit and a t-shirt and terrycloth shorts into the park, then bring a change of clothes with you. You can always get a locker and put them in there, then go change after your do the ride.

If your legs get chafed from your clothes being wet, try sprinkling baby powder on them once you're dry. It takes away the stickiness and makes it much less painful.

If we plan on doing Kali we always leave it to the last ride so that we will do it over & over & then just head back to our resort. We also try to make sure that it is a warm day out. We use to carry extra clothes so we can change, now I just make sure I bring flip flops so that I can change into my sneakers afterwards & be comfortable.

If we plan on doing Kali we always leave it to the last ride so that we will do it over & over & then just head back to our resort. We also try to make sure that it is a warm day out. No ponchos here; getting wet is part of the fun! We also wait until the end of the day, ride several times (usually really short lines!) and have a quick change in our bags so we don't have to walk through the park all wet.

i pack a pair of flip flops and wear the most light weight shorts i have to AK that day. Before we get in line i change my shoes, from sneakers to the flips, and when we get done riding ( usually multiple times) i go in that bathroom right there and dry my feet and put my sneakers back on@ lol.
I really like the idea of using a plastic shopping bag to wrap the backpack in! awesome idea. : )

I carried a waterproof camping bag and stuck our small backpack down in it before putting it in the center section. I ziploc bagged everything inside the backpack in a two gallon storage bag. Each electronic item was also individually bagged before placing them all in the larger ziploc bag. Nothing got wet at all. We apparently sat with unlucky people because they got soaked & we just got sprinkled.

We sit on a plastic bag or a map, because we don't mind getting wet, but sitting down in cold water? Not nice!

As for our bags, we've been known just to ask for a large plastic bag in a nearby shop and then put our bags in there (it's only mine and my mother's, and both our bags are pretty small so they fit fine). Since our cameras are the only electronics and are in cases anyway, they've been fine every time.

Seriously, We bring small ziplog bags to store cameras and cell phones when we know we are on a water ride. My JVC digital camcorder even fits in its one ziplock freezer bag. The freezer bags obviously last longer than the thin sandwich type.

If we have the backpack then we have flip flops with us to swap into. I don't like wearing them all the time but nothing better than dry sneakers.

No ponchos... have fun getting wet. wear bathing suit (possibly under clothes), change before/after ride, flip flops or water shoes. Take a giant zip lock baggie, put whole backpack inside it and zip. Rinse.... Repeat. We like to do the water ride several times in a row. If not crowded, we have been able to stay on without getting off the ride, especially at Kali River Rapids.

For Kali we brought really lightweight outfits with us in our bags. I don't like carrying anything if I can help it, so I had packed everything into a backpack and threw it into the stroller with the plan of putting it into a locker. We were sort of shocked how much they were charging for lockers, and we would've needed about 3 for our party of ten. We decided to leave it on the stroller. That being said, next year we will be buying the kids small backpacks so the load can be divided evenly and everyone is responsible for their own bag. In said bags we will put our lightweight cotton change of clothes, and as we wear crocs most of the time, our shoes will be fine. We loved getting soaked, but that ride seems to be a sore subject in our family. In 2010 I was mad bc no one in my family knew the park closed early (we were non-planners then), and I missed it. They went on without me! This year we fought bc we went on without my mom! Argh! Sort of ruined the fun! Hopefully next year we can get it right. Otherwise I am throwing my mom overboard!!!!

For SM we didn't ever get wet enough to have to change clothes. I take that back. My mom gets drenched every time, but she doesn't change. You dry pretty quickly in my opinion. I did change once b/c I was wearing light tan pants that may as well have been white! Suddenly you could see all the way through my clothes!!!! Oops! We went on probably ten times this year and no one ever had to change.

Go to Target and buy 5 pairs of nude panties for $20. Wear them under EVERYTHING thin and or white.

Aside from the few wet-t shirt fans in this thread I'm not a person who wants to stay soaked all day. It's difficult to dry off in the Florida humidity in August!
We always take cheapo dollar store ponchos with us for the water rides and those unexpected downpours. They are packed super small and we often pass them along to people in line on our way out.
I know getting soaked is part of the fun, but not so much for me. I love the rides and the water, I just don't like being soaked for hours and hours.

Poncho for me, because I don't like wearing wet clothes all day! I always wear crocs, so shoes aren't an issue. DD likes being wet, but makes sure she is "appropriately" dressed for a KRR before leaving the hotel in the morning... colored tee shirt, thin shorts that will dry easily- having learned the hard way. Oh yes, there's a stand, between the KRR exit and the nearby bathroom, that sells dresses for about $25. We have one of those.... Fortunately, I knew DD would wear the heck out of that dress, and she has, so the $25 spent became her souvenir from that trip and WAS a good purchase!

Bring some flip flops in your backpack, and change into them prior to the ride. Then stow your backpack in a locker.

If you don't want to bring an entire change of clothes for everyone, be sure to wear some kind of quick-drying shorts (no denim shorts! they take forever to dry!). Bring an extra t-shirt to change into. That should do it!

Change into bathing suits and make this the very last thing that you do! Not sure when you are going but sometimes we have been able to stay on the ride a few times and even if we can't we just keep getting back in line.....No big deal if your already in a swimsuit! Enjoy!
