Kali River - How do YOU stay Dry?

The only way I know of to make sure not to get wet on Kali is NOT to ride!!! I hate getting soaked, so I just watch everyone else get wet. That is enough fun for me- I'm not a big fan of the ride.

I just laughed to myself when I see people wearing ponchos. Doesn't that defeat the purpose of this ride- it is a water ride after all??????
Some of us like the "ride" part of the term "water ride" -- but the "water" part, not so much. :teeth:

For whoever wondered if the cheapo ponchos work -- yep. We got ours at Walmart for about a buck each. Just make sure you tuck it under your rear as you sit down, because the seat WILL be wet from other riders!

I learned the hard way. I got so soaked once, I was absolutely miserable the rest of the day. Hence, the poncho or skipping it all together. I hate getting wet. I refuse to sit in the first row on Splash Mountain and whatever row I am in, I duck at the end so the water goes above me - but that's a ride I HAVE to do. :)

I was just on the Hershey version of Kali Rapids and we got out of control soaked. It was like we rode under hoses dumping water on us for the whole ride.
::yes::
When we went last month I wore a poncho. Evil Aunt did not bring ponchos for the kids. They got soaked!!!! One was standing and it looked like she was peeing her pants!!

I keep dry the old fashioned way. I don't ride it.

Someday I'd like to ride it once. But I hate being wet all day after I ride and with me sitting down in my wheelchair I don't get a chance to get dry till I'm back at my hotel and change.

I do the exact same thing! We usually go in February so the weather can be hit or miss although usually really great. One year it was so freakin cold that we skipped Kali altogether! My lips were so blue there was noooo way I was taking the slightest chance of getting wet. DH and DS tough it out and get wet. DD and I wear the ponchos because I don't like to get my head wet out in public (it's a hair and makeup princess kinda thing). I've seen people snicker at us and I just smile and go with it. I still have a blast with my poncho!

Fantasmic303 - I know exactly where you are coming from. Been there, done that. Loved every second though. We had some serious party people on our boat. By far our funnest ride experience ever and I don't mean favorite, I mean funnest!

At the risk of sounding crazy, I always use the poncho. There's nothing more anoying to me then when my freshly straightened hair gets wet and turns into a curly mop. That being said I've used the poncho on Splash Mountain, and avoided getting drenched like my fiancee and people sitting in front of us. I have also used it on several other rides. While it's worked in covering my hair it hasn't worked keeping the rest of me completely dry. I was wearing one on splash mountain once and was wearing white pants....tight white pants. Let's just say we made a bee line for the exit after that with the poncho wrapped around my waste!

I totally agree~! You still get to ride, but don't have the getting soaked problem. And do you know how many people rode with us that wished they had a poncho on after the ride ended? A LOT!! You just do whatever it is that works for you, that's all. :)

:rotfl2: :rotfl2: :rotfl2: :lmao: :lmao: :lmao:

You know, I didn't even catch that the first time I read it :rotfl:

I have a peacoat that dries really fast and that comes down to my shins. From there, I just pull my pants up and toss my socks into the bin. Ponchos also help, but water gets between you and the poncho, which feels 100 times more uncomfortable than just being soaked.

I hold everyones belonging and take their photo from the bridge as they go by. Haven't gotten wet yet!

I typically travel with a pooh sized family member and I have noticed over the last 3 or 4 trips that it is ALWAYS her seat that ends up going up the final hill backward and getting drenched. MY theory is that whichever section of the tube has the most weight will be the one to get totally drowned. I try to sit exactly opposite from her now!

BTW, I shared my theory with her before our last ride and she didn't care .. she wanted to ride and was prepared to get wet. Sure enough .... :rotfl:
She's a great sport about it!
