Tell me all about it. If you've been to both, do you prefer Sandusky or Wis Dells? Have you been in Summer, and if so, how crowded is it once they let the outside guests in? If we go, it will not be over a weekend.

Thanks!

Wisconsin Dells is very crowded in the summer even during the week. If staying at one of the big resorts with indoor waterparks, I would stay at the Wilderness it does not let non-resort guest in. On a rainy day the Kalahari could get very busy.

Thanks, we liked that about Great Wolf Lodge as well, but it's obviously smaller.

We live just a few hours from the dells and have pretty much been to all of the Dells waterparks, indoors and out at different times of the year. We do a lot of 3 day get aways there since its cost effective and fun.

Hands down our favorite place to stay is the Kalahari. They have a very large indoor dry theme park, a great indoor water park and excellent outdoor waterpark.

Reasons I like it over Great Wolf Lodge:

1. Water is warmer. W/ a two year old that was huge for me. I was freezing at Great Wolf.

2. Better food. Kalahari is themed very well.. I can order healthy food, salads, panini's, wraps and it has more choices for resteraunts. At Great wolf we were only able to find pizza and one resteraunt, which was very slow. Kalahari also has an awesome sweet treats stand, to die for!

If you do book though make sure to ask to stay in the main building, its a very far walk to the far building. Last time we stayed we got a two bedroom on the first floor off the walkway to the indoor theme park. It had an outdoor patio with patio table and chairs. It was awesome because while our toddler was napping in the room we were able to sit on the patio in the sun and read while watching our older son in the waterpark.

I should add that I've never been to GWL or Kalahari in Ohio, only the Dells :)

We've done GWL at The Dells. We definitely want a bigger place next time, but thought maybe Sandusky would be a fun new destination. Drive is similar to both. Looked into Wilderness a little and it has me intrigued.

We've only been to the Sandusky location, but it's our favorite indoor waterpark resort. :thumbsup2 We're heading there Thursday night, in fact. :)

It can get very crowded during weekends and holidays, so we try to go at an offpeak time. I've only been there once during summertime.

When I lived in Pittsburgh, we would vacation every couple months to Kalahari in Sandusky. In my opinion it's the best weekend/3-day getaway for the money in that tri-state area.

Food is good and moderately priced, theme is wonderful, and the water and air is very warm. Loved, loved, loved it!

I have a friend whose husband's company did an event there. Several of them got bed bugs. I would check the online sites that monitor those. Bedbugdotcom is one I know of. Just want you to have a good time. ;)

Kalahari Resort = :thumbsup2

You may pay a bit more but you'll get more. Warmer water then others, more dining choices and for the most part, there's more to it than just the water park and room.

We did Thanksgiving with them at the Dells location last year and they had much better Thanksgiving Dinner then other places we went to prior to it. Nice selection of restaurants and even the Food Court Pizza was great.

The Wilderness can be hit or miss. We went once when one of the 3 waterparks was close and it was fairly slow and we had a good time. We went when they were all open and it was crazy crowded, the staff clearly couldn't keep up with cleaning. Also everything is a long walk there, not convienient at all! BUT they do have MANY accomodation options.

But I will say Kalahari is quite large with two indoor parks (theme and water) and the outdoor water park is very nice. We did not find a lack of things to do. I really think you won't be dissapointed :)
