Did anyone else have Father Valentine visit on Feb 14?

When I was growing up we used to have Father Valentine visit on Valentines Day each year. How it worked was Father Valentine would leave a gift at the front door, ring the bell, then run off. We'd run to the front door and find the gift (usually candy or something we'd been wishing for.) While were at the front door looking at the gift the back door bell would ring and basically the same thing would occur. (Some years if we wished for something small it would happen a couple of times.)

Did anyone else have Father Valentine visit when they were growing up?

I thought for sure this was something that was common out there (I convinced the DH that it was .... so at least Father Valentine still comes to our house.)

No, but my own father was my valentine for many years!!

My Dad would leave for work very early in the morning, and my sister and I would both wake up every Valentine's morning to find a heart-shaped box of candy, along with a small gift (stuffed animal, earrings, whatever).

Well, DH still gets me something for Valentine's Day - it's like my personal National Holiday that was created just for me here at our house... but nobody who hides things and surprises the kids.

It's a nice idea tho. Who was busy ringing the doorbell?

It was usually my Mom at the door, while we were distracted washing the dishes or cleaning up from dinner. (My dad was definitely my first Valentine too. All kids with a great dad should feel totally blessed. DH had a lot to live up to -- which he always does.)
