I posted earlier about the whole screw-up with Dh's pay and how money is really tight right now with the move, etc. Anyway, I belong to another message board, and a member who actually I have met had posted an email, (she is a photgrapher) and did my wedding and engagement pics of which she has on her business cards). So I read the email and she wrote how she moved to the Atlanta area and had been 10 days and just gotten a job starting Mon. (today). Happy to know a familiar person in the area, I emailed her privately congratulating her on her new job, move, asked where she lived and mentioned us getting together. I just read her reply and she said she came from Mississippi with nothing, I think because of Katrina. She is staying in a roach infested shelter in a seedy side of town. She has no money and no car and got a job where she hopes to find an apartment. She said it take 3 hours one way to commute. Goodness gracious. I haven't replied or called (she gave her number) because I have no idea what to say. I know it certainly puts everything into perspective though. Even with DH pay troubles, thank God we will be able to pay the rent, and most of the bills. I will not complain about my situation anymore. This is a lesson for me, someone is worse off then we are.

Now on the other side, should I respond to her and how? We have spoken and emailed each other over the years but we are not more than aquaintances.

It certainly sounds like the woman needs all the friends she can get.

Just be friendly. She probably just wants a friendly voice right now. But, do call her as soon as you can.

Tiff, is she anywhere near you? I know you said she has no car, and I know your family is tight for money at the moment too. I guess I was thinking if she's anywhere close by, could you have her over for dinner? Just a cookout, or something simple like a mac and cheese casserole.

P.S. I just read your other post...best wishes on getting through this month. I know how it feels when you budget for one scenario, then wind up with a whole nother one. Don't worry about venting, just because someone else has it bad, doens't make it easier for you. Hugs to you both!
