I seen the Matrix for our cruise, and well It really confused my DW and myself. No biggie... but I noticed in there it mentioned dining and what to wear.

It said no shorts. Now this is strange to me since its not a formal dinner, and I guess long casual pants are required. Am I right? I have cruised b4 and wore Casual docker shorts, and polo shirt to dinner as well as many others. And when it was time I wore my suit to dinner.

Would this mean that my DS 3 would also have to be in long pants (casual attire) for dinner?

Do you dress casual for ALL dinners on the cruise? :confused:

Yep...you have to wear casual pants to dinner and so does your child....A suit and tie for formal night and semi-formal. If you don't want to dress up..you can always go to the buffet for dinner. The only night you can get away with shorts is for the mexican/tropical night. Really though, its no big deal...a pair of casual pants and a shirt is not that bad....you are only in them for a couple of hours...;)

Have a great cruise!

Your young son will be fine in shorts. Shorts are not recommended for adults or anyone at any dinner in the main dining rooms, with the exception of Tropicale Night (our servers suggested this as it was a festive atmosphere - tropical shirts etc.) Will you be turned away? Probably not, but it is not suggested. We did not dress casual for all dinners and had our son in long pants for the first couple, but he wore shorts to the remaining without a word from anyone. They weren't beach shorts, they were khaki type with a nice collared shirt, so he was presentable and neat. We also ate at Topsiders one night. I wouldn't wear shorts, but the young children are fine.

You will find people who may disagree with me.

The policy is "no shorts in the dining room at dinner." Reality is that very young children (like the under 3 set) will be allowed in regardless of what they are wearing.

As to a suit for formal night--this is listed as "suggested attire." It is not enforced in any way. Children for formal and semi-formal nights will wear everything from nice dockers and a polo shirt to a tux. Adult gentlemen mostly wear suits, a few tux, and a few who think formal means a polo shirt! The suit is "suggested," but not enforced in any way.

Thank you ::yes::

I dont see it being a problem, but as mentioned we will prob hit the buffet a few nights. But it's nice to know now that I will need to pack some more casual pants if we decide to eat in the dining areas more often. My DS has some long pants (casual) but I really wont worry to much. Once again Thanks and Im looking forward to it.

Yep, casual pants.

You will also see the little boys..dressed just like the dads..khakis and a polo shirt..they look so adorable.

Enjoy!

::yes:: I we do that too. It's cute

Remember you will probably only be in them a few hours. Unless you want to pack a lot, or are prone to spilling, one pair of nice pants will see you through several dinners. And the valet service is great for a mid-cruise launder and press (maybe on formal night, if you are wearing your suit anyway).

For women, capris are another option (I liked wearing capris in Parrot Cay - so thematic!).

I've been on 7 cruises, and all the lines required long pants in the dining rooms for dinner. Can't speak to enforcement issue. Most of the lines offered a dinner buffet for those who did not want to dress.
Actually, the first cruise I went on suits were required every night for dinner on men, and tuxes for the formal night. That was on Paquet's Mermoz.
