Just thought about how much money I saved by not going to Disney

Back story- We usually go to Disney about 3 times in each 12 month period to make the most of of yearly passes. I'll take family on about one trip each 12-16 months. Groups range from 2 to 8. After a couple just plain bad trips(Honestly, I felt like a cattle being herded way too often at Disney), I took a break. After looking at my finances this morning, I noticed that I saved over 9k by not heading to Disney. Even with DVC club points, which i rented and actually made money. This 9k is after going elsewhere on vacation(Rented a home at the beach, rented a home in the mountains and a bunch of mini trips) I do plan on heading to Disney again maybe next October and taking three trips on a year long pass.

See I can never say that. I'm a big vacation gal so even if I don't go to Disney, I'm going some where.

LOL. 2012 we skipped Disney but went to Paris!!
Next year we're skipping the mouse world again but either doing London or a cruise.

Yeah that sounds about right. Hope you get something good with your 9k.

Congrats, OP!:thumbsup2

That would never happen to me. If I go or don't go the money still evaporates. :lmao:

We went on a 10 night Alaskan cruise in a balcony room this summer with a 3 day land tour after the cruise. It cost a small fortune. Disney used to be expensive to me, but compared to that trip, I tell my husband we're saving money! :lmao:

We're taking a break next year from WDW, but they'll be back to collecting our money in 2016 :).

I would love to hear about your planning of a trip to London. We want to go to Europe and have no idea where to begin.

Op, it's great that you saved some money and still managed to have some fun.

We, do go to WDW every year and take one other larger vacation. I actually find WDW to be a very reasonably priced vacation, if you plan ahead. Our other vacation very often costs more than our WDW on. Vacations are our big luxury. We don't have a lot of other expensive habits so this is our time. I budget all year long for vacations and I cherish that time!

We spend thousands to go to disney but we are travelling from the UK and spend while in the USA because of the exchange rate (taking clothes home for family and buying shoes that aren't available in the UK).

Our WDW vacation for 2 including flights from Glasgow to Orlando was £1990, a weekend in Pitlochry (about 50 miles away) cost £300!

Disney is very reasonable, when we go long haul to the Caribbean it can be £3000 upwards!

LOL, actually pretty much the same premise as a Disney trip. I signed up at Fodors.com and they have all types of forums that are just like this. I'm currently stalking the UK forum.

Hardest part is trying to get a decent airfare. whew. air travel is insane/

I'll keep you posted.

Same here... Icelandair is looking good even if they do use old 757s and require a stopover in Reykjavic. We were hoping to use our miles and go business class via United but I am seeing absolutely 0 saver awards.:( If I can't go fancy, I am going cheap cheap cheap!
