Just Switched to YC!!!!!

Planning this trip has been a rollercoaster. A really exciting one! My dad called me a few weeks ago to ask if I wanted to do a long weekend at the World. I originally booked us at POR with the room only discount. Be both love the Port Orleans resorts, so I was really pleased. Then I started hunting around and found the teacher discount at the Dolphin, So I changed our reservation. The Epcot area is my absolute favorite, so things were getting better. Then my dad mentions yesterday that he saw a good rate at YC and was thinking about switching. I stayed at the YC several years ago with my aunts and my parents joined us for a few days but stayed at POR. Well my dad was just captivated by the YCwhen he came over to see us. He has always wanted to stay there, but could never seem to justify the price. Well, for some reason he has decided that this is the trip that we will stay at the YC. I am so excited that I can hardly stand it! Off to change my ticker!

I was wondering if you could give me so input on a DL trip. I read that you are only 15 minutes away from DL and was wondering if you ever stayed at the GC and why you are traveling acroos country to visit WDW..

WDW and DL are very different and I love them both. DL is the park I grew up with, I know it like the back of my hand, and I go there as often as I can. Sometimes I meet friends for a drink after work, sometimes I just ride Space Mountain, somtimes I stay all day. WDW is MUCH bigger and has more to offer. I go once or twice a year and there will always be something new for me on each trip. I love the obsessive planning, and the waiting and daydreaming that builds with each trip. In short WDW is special because it is so far away, and it is a lot of work to make a trip happen.

I have stayed at the GC. It is a lovely hotel. I think if you can stay there for more than three nights and really experience the resort you will fall in love with it. Being able to walk to both parks is incredible. I was only there for one night, and really only slept there. So for me it felt like a rip-off. But I think that was my bad planning more than anything else. Please let me know if there are any other questions I can answer for you.

We are from south western CT and a flight to Orlando is only 2.5 hrs away and very affordable on Jetblue. We head to WDW once or twice a year for five nights and love it. We are planning a DL trip for April 09 and will be staying at the GC for five nights.
What restaurants do you sugest in DL, CA or DTD ???

I hope you love Disneyland! Here are some of my favorite restaurants:

Disneyland:
Blue Bayou: overpriced, but everyone must eat there once
Cafe Orleans: good food, eat on the patio for a great view of the Rivers of America
Bengal Barbeque: line can be long, but the grilled meats are worth it

California Adventure:
Wine Country Tratoria: great pasta, and wonderful views from the patio
Boudin: very good, although pricey, sandwiches

Downtown Disney:
Naples: great italian
ESPN Zone: not fine dining, but a great place for a burger and the game


The Napa Rose at the GC is a wonderful dining experience as well, but I would leave the kids out of this one.

We ate at the Storyteller Cafe at the GC in July 2006. Food was very good; service wonderful!

I'm also very close to DL (not 15 minutes though!) and my BF and I got Annual Passports this year and we *love* them. Even though I didn't grow up in CA, I have a lot of family here, so DL was always the park I new better - a day at DL was just a part of a trip to visit the fam. But WDW is an immersion experience! The anticipation is such a big part of the fun! And it's just so much bigger. BF and I have DL down to an art - we can do just about all our favorite rides at DL *and* DCA in one day. But we're spending 8 days in the world and I already know it won't be enough.

I'm so excited!

About DL - let me just tell you that the Nemo subs are worth the 3 1/2 hour wait, but only once. We're very glad we went - we played the movie-actor game in the queue and the time went by pretty fast. But we'll be happy to wait to ride it again until the hype wears off or another new ride takes the spotlight.

BF and I love the soups in bread bowls at the Pacific Wharf Cafe. When I'm with him, we do the Character Breakfast at the Grand Californian (Chip and Dale are our favorites) But when I go with my sisters, it's Minnie Mouse and Winnie the Pooh all the way at the Plaza Inn!
