We just switched our ressies on Oct 2 - 9th from CSR water view to savannah at AKL! When we asked our TA to check on the extra cost, Disney messed up and quoted the additional cost for only 1 room not 2. When the TA went to book the extra charge doubled but we were already hooked on staying at AKL. Hopefully they will make it up to us with an upgrade but I won't hold my breath. Hope we did the right thing.

IMHO you made a great choice to switch. We enjoy AKL far more than we did our stay at CSR. The lobby of the resort is very striking; lots to see. We also like the fact that it's a deluxe resort ~ the rooms all have balconies and no outside corridors. We found it to be a much quieter resort than CSR.

Boma is one of our favorite restaurants and Jiko has wonderful food for a different type of dining experience.

Yes, the resort is a bit 'removed', but (if you aren't driving) you'd be taking the bus from either of the resorts. Bus service was very good on my 2 visits; direct to the parks from AKL, no stopping at another resort along the way.

First stay there I booked savannah view. Second stay was very short, so I just booked 'standard' view .... was upgraded to savannah without even asking :)

Enjoy your stay at AKL ~~

Thanks for the info. CPer'sMom, we will be renting a SUV. In your opinion, is it better to drive or take the bus to the parks?

I find that the bus usually works best when going to the MK ~~ you are dropped off directly at the park. If you drive you will go to the TTC & then have to take the monorail or boat to the MK.

With the other parks it's sometimes just individual preference. The bus is usually convenient ~ On my 2 stays they seemed to run quite often and I very rarely had a long wait either to or from the parks.

Some days we just prefer to drive depending upon what our day looks like.

And does anyone know if you choose to drive in do you still have to pay car parking fees at parks when you are staying on site

Thanks
Helen

If you are staying at any Disney resort you do not have to pay for themepark parking.

When you check into the resort you will (should) be asked if you need a 'car pass'. Just stick it in your car window & that is what you'll show when you enter the parking area of each park so they know not to charge you. :)

We love both CSR & AKL but AKL is our favorite resort. It is a beautiful resort. We always rent a car or drive our own so we find it easier to drive than to wait for a bus, they can get crowded when the parks close.

We just switched from POP to AKL for oct 2-7th. I really wanted to stay at AKL, so I figured we'd go for it since were getting the free dining. Now we're REALLY excited about going to WDW!!!

I guess it does make sense to take the bus to MK, esp. as our ADR that evening is at 1900 Park Fair. Does it take long to get a bus when the park closes?
