Notes from my stay October 9 - 16, 2004

2 bedroom, 2 bath unit in the north village—close to splash lagoon and on a golf course. We were very close to the back exit. Publix grocery store was VERY close if you went out back exit (I think it evens sits on OLCC property).

UNIT: Foyer hall, then to the left—2nd bedroom with 2 beds (queens or doubles), tv, closet, dresser. Laundry closet with full size washer and dryer; bathroom with shower but no tub. To the right—master bedroom with closet, tv, dresser, chair, desk and master bathroom. Bathroom had whirlpool tub—no jets at your back—only on your sides; shower stall, sink and toilet with another door.
Kitchen: fully equipped: stove/oven, microwave, fridge, coffeemaker, dishwasher, double sink, utensils, etc.
Dining area: table with 4 chairs and a bench built into the wall
Living room: L shaped sofa, chair, 2 bar stools against the kitchen counter, tv and vcr. Door led to screened in porch. Porch had table and 4 chairs.

Splash Lagoon; DGS (31/2 loved it). The Main check in area had an indoor play area for kids but we didn’t go there except to check in.

Cleanliness: I sprayed everything with Lysol when we arrived and put a sheet over the couch—it just felt dirty—nothing specific could just be heavie jeevies plus the fact I found it ‘dark’. HOWEVER under the chair in the master bedroom was a luggage tag (from the airport when you check your bags)—we drove so don’t know how long that was there.

Supplies: Most places we’ve stayed at supplied us with one box of laundry detergent and one packet of dishwasher detergent—OLCC gave us 3 – 4 of each—so we never ran out (at no charge).

Wildlife: DS caught a lizard in his room (second bedroom) Monday morning. He and DGS released it into the ‘wild”. After DS left to go home a day later, and I was alone with DGS, I saw another lizard in the dining room. Called Security to come ‘release him” lady who answered the call kept asking if there was a SNAKE in the unit. UMM..NOOOOO but do you have problems with that? When I finally convinced her it was a lizard she kept asking—and you need security to come out? YES—but by the time they got there I had already liberated the little guy. The security guy thought it was funny and I probably was the joke of the security staff the rest of the week.

Shortcut to Disney: From 192 turn LEFT onto Black Lake Road, ends at Sherberth Road—turn LEFT onto Sherberth. At first light turn RIGHT. Follow signs to wherever you need to go.

Shortcut off turnpike: 27 (as told to me on the DIS). At this end of 192 it was well worth taking 27 through Clermont from the turnpike. I avoided I4 and all that traffic—HOWEVER if you are further down 192 this may not be the best option for you.

Orange Lake Country Club is a condo/timeshare property. Lots of people from these boards have stayed there either through their own timeshare company, skyauction, or renting.

Thanks Belle1962,

Our journey to OLCC begins early tomorrow morning and appreciate the time you took to discribe the resort. Seems as though I may need to include an aquarium with our luggage for our house guests.

We are a family of 4.......my wife and I (39+38) and our 2 princesses (10+6), Is there anything you advise we should bring to the resort other than the usual necessities (noticed you mentioned lysol)?

I'm not an owner at OLCC but traded into there, is there a location we could ask for? Any other tips will be greatly recieved.

TIA,
Keith

This was a full service resort--the pools and play areas were nice. We couldn't play "outside" in the"back yard" because it was literally on the green of one of the golf courses--no big deal DS and DGS went over to the basketball courts to kick a ball around.

I did end up purchasing swim noodles at Publix for use in the pool. I had left mine at home accidently. DGS loved playing with them in the pool and he made a "new friend" each time when we went when he "loaned out" his second one.

I bought laundry detergent and dishwasher dteergent from home but didn't need it because they supplied quite a bit.

I did bring a nightlight so DGS wouldn't be in the dark if he woke up.

I ALWAYS travel with Lysol--I spray down stuff like remotes, phones, door handles, light switches, curtain rods, etc--the things you know you HAVE to touch but can't be sure gets wiped down by housekeeping every time.

Call right away and ask for location in the North Village near splash lagoon. It was great to be at the "kids area" and not have to get in the car and drive plus it was so easy to go out the back exit. The back exit does close at 10:00 pm so some nights we had to go in through the front. Back to Splash Lagoon, it was so nice to be able to take a quick walk over and play. I feel if we would have had to get in the car, load the car with our towels and noodles, park, etc. we wouldn't have gotten nearly as much use of it as we did. There are two pools there--one has the big mushroom that sprays water down--it was COOOOOLLLLLLDDDDD. The other pool, with basketball, slides, waterfalls, graduated entry was much warmer. They also had the fountain area where the kids played and ran around as water jumps from the ground.

They rent movies there but we bought a few favorites from home for down time.

They put a mandatory hold of $115 on a credit card when we checked in....said everyone had to leave one as a security deposit. They wouldn't take a check but would take a debit card if you didn't have a credit card.

There was a drugstore (Walgreens maybe) right across from the front entrance--and there is a brand new Wal Mart on 27----turn right exiting the resort onto 192 and go up to 27.

The shortcut mentioned above was a huge timesaver.

They also supply bar soap for the bathrooms (no shampoo) and I prefer liquid soap so I got that at the drugstore across the street.

Belle1962,

Did they just give you north village? When I called to request (this was a month or so ago) they stated they couldn't change where we were assigned, which is in west village.

Just wondering....

The Lysol is a good idea. My one year old literally licks everything. I just try to not think about it when your staying at hotels (or at pumpkin patches;) )

and I did call ahead about making sure we were in an absolutely smoke-free condo (due to allergies) and requested to not be on ground floor (just my thing!). I did ask about the new East Village, but was told they couldn't guarantee anything, but when we arrived that is where we were assigned. It doesn't hurt to ask. I emailed directly as when I telephoned it wasn't very helpful (I think it wasn't direct at OL, but the actual exchange spot ... not entirely sure). We were very happy in our villa as there was a small gradual entry pool b/w our building and the one next door. This was enough for our two daughters, who were only 2.5 and 8 mos at the time. It was nice and warm and generally quiet. We overlooked the new golf course.

It is a beautiful place. We did the timeshare thing and agreed to purchase through Latitudes for another week ... in retrospect I wouldn't do that again as I have discovered pool homes and am more interested in that. We are going the pool home route this year in March, but will use our week we purchased in 2006. When you do the timeshare thing, enjoy your breakfast ... it wasn't bad, but was awkward sitting eat with the timeshare rep guy. We didn't get to enjoy it. The next time around we are going to enjoy it whether he likes it or not! We know we aren't going to purchase, but we want those extra perks like golf passes with cart rentals, Universal passes, water park passes, etc. Plus only dh and I are going this time, not my kids and parents. It is too hard on them.

Anyways ... that got a bit off topic ... but just thought I'd add that last part!

We will be staying in a 3 bedroom condo beginning the day after Thanksgiving and I would like to also be by the water park.
Where the heck do I want to be located LOL Thanks.

Hey, I thought I put a countdown clock on this?

Bumping this as I am also interested in js's question. (I am her Mom and will be going to OLCC also ;) )

The North Village is where 'Splash Lagoon" is. I understand they are working on a new water complex but I don't think it's done yet.

One note: There wasn't a hot tub in that area. Here are descrioptions of the pool areas from their website.

Splash Lagoon A family favorite—for kids of ALL ages.
Take a dip at Splash Lagoon, where you'll find a wade-in pool, slides and an interactive fountain that kids just love. You can look out over the golf course in the distance as you lay out in the sun. It's also a great place to catch a fun game of water basketball. The surroundings feel just like a day at the beach!

West Village Pool Complex Everything you need—for a day of fun in the sun.
There are so many ways to spend a day at the West Village. For serious swimmers, or those who just want to take a dip, there's an Olympic-size swimming pool, as well as other pools, so it's never too crowded. You can relax in one of two spas, lay out in the sun in a lounge chair, or enjoy a cool, refreshing drink and grab a bite at the Beachfront Bar & Grill. Forget to pack a bathing suit or sunscreen? Stop by the SeaFarer shop and you'll also find pool toys, accessories and anything you need for your day at the pool. And when the sun goes down, enjoy live tunes in the bandshell area. You'll find there's always something going on at the West Village!

Southern Magnolia pool area Refresh yourself at this convenient fun spot.
For guests staying in the West Village, we offer another convenient option for swimming and sunbathing. Visit our Southern Magnolia pool area, where you can enjoy a refreshing pool and spa set against a relaxing, tropical setting. You don’t have to travel far to take a dip.

East Village pool area Our newest pool.
In the East Village, there is a smaller pool and spa area for a quiet, relaxing experience. Here you can enjoy the blue sky and gentle breezes in a pretty setting.

NOTE—All pools at Orange Lake are heated, except for the Olympic pool in the West Village.

Thanks so much. I just printed out your info., will read and then call :)
