Just spoke to Disney regarding FIRES

I live in Santa Clarita and I can see Magic Mountain out my bedroom window. There are no freeway closures at this time, but if you want to know about the area, you can go to this site http://www.santa-clarita.com/ for updates about fires in the area. The air was MUCH better today here, even though I know there are still fires in the area.

Oh biolabetty you may just need to be my new best friend these next couple of days. I am planning on going to Magic Mountain on friday.. I have been in contact with the park to make sure they aren't closing and how the air quality is and if the roads are closed. However, sometimes I feel as though they are just telling me what I want to hear so if you dont mind, I would love to have you as my source to tell me the real scoop.

My avatar picture is my DD. She was a flowergirl in my best friends wedding this summer. At the reception they had a bubble machine and she LOVED it. I was just happy she held still long enough for me to snap the picture.

I just heard on our local news this morning( i am in bc,canada) that one of our water bombers (i think the only ones like it in the world) is on its way...they said should arrive in 6 hours (that was 2 hours ago)...The town i live in is home to these 2 bombers and they are amazing..i think it takes something like 20 secs to fill it with water (on a lake or water source-it just flies and scoops) and 10 minutes to dump the load it can pick up..hopefully this will help somewhat, i know the bombers are in major request in large fires..they are incredible to see, it is too bad that one of them isnt in the water right now and we could only send one....i wish everyone well that is living there right now and is affected by these fires, what we see on tv doesnt come close to even allowing us to see what it is like there...here is the link

I just drove by the front of Magic Mountain about 20 minutes ago. All the roads are open, and the air is OK, not spectacular, but OK. You can't smell the smoke anymore, but you can see a slight haze. When I drove by, I could see how close the fire had come to Magic Mountain. There is an entrance road that leads up to the park, the left side of the road is charred. Magic Mountain is fine though, and I'm sure they'll be open.

I also live near the Martin Mars Bombers, one town away...and I can't stress enough how AMAZING these things are!
When they fly over you, it is an incredible experience! They are HUGE, and their sound just moves you to the core. I take the half hour drive to Jakoky's town whenever I know they're going to be in the air..we've got lots of family there too.

Hopefully they will be very helpful in battling the monstrous fires.

A new reporter was giving info - standing on a Malibu mountain with the scary smoke & the beautiful ocean over his shoulder - The news anchor asked very concerned like "how will those water planes get water,..... what with the drought & everything???" The reporter gave one of those great double eye blinks... as the crickets chirped behind him & he replied.... "Uh....i don't think they'll run out of water.....they're getting it out of the ocean". )

Hopefully that plane will take a swing past my brother's place...big reservoir right nearby, they could just toss a few scoops on the Harris fire and be done with it and I could stop worrying and get more than 3 hours of sleep.

I'm in the middle of all the fires, but thank god we didn't have to evacuate and the fires are moving away from us. I do know people that did lose everything they had, and we are doing our best to help them during this time. My heart goes out to everyone that did lose their home and everything in it. And I would like to give a special thanks to all the firefighters who risk their lives for us all the time, and they did an awesome job during these past few days. Thank you!!

I'm guessing it will be heading to San Diego since from what I can ascertain that's still where the need is the greatest. I would think the Harris fire will be high on the list, that or maybe the witch-poomacha.

Thankfully the winds are much calmer today and they seem to be getting a better handle on some of the fires, unfortunately homes are still burning.

we made a subway run and dropped sandwiches and water off with some folks who had set up coolers with food and drinks at the roadblock just up the street from us for any emergency personnel who were able to stop for a minute and grab a bite. There were several firefighters there yesterday.
We're trying to take good care of the guys and gals that are coming to help.

I work in the immediate DLR area and I ate my lunch outside today. Didn't notice any falling ash on my food and the table outside was surprisingly clean. Skies are still kind of hazy, but not nearly as bad as the past 2 days. Either I've become accustomed to the smoke smell or it isn't there anymore... can't say for sure which. We're in much, much better shape today.

Well you'd have to flip my brother and his wife for it, and she's a litigator so she has her ways of talking people out of things.

This is solely a comment on the name, and not meant to diminish the scariness of the actual fires, but when I read that the Witch fire was perhaps joining up with the Poomacha fire, I just about had a giggle fit. Those names...and I know they have their reasons for their names, and it's not their "fault" that when you put them together it sounds so silly, but still. It's like up here in WA when various rivers go over their banks almost every year, and you learn about the Stilaguamish and Skykomish rivers and the like rivers, and the syllables just trip over your tongue and you have to smile as you say them...
