My mum shared with me a scrapbook she has of my dad when he was an officer in the Salvation Army (they both were). In it there was a sermon that he wrote and was published in the paper. It just really touched me today. My dad died 15 years ago, New Years Eve.
He led a broad life not a long one. He was a great man who is truly missed.
Keep in mind these are newspaper pictures form the 1960s so they arent that great. Please dont turn this into a debate on Christianity being the only religion that teaches compassion. This isnt what this is about.
This was a picture of him in the newspaper doing what he did best, caring.
This is one of him serving people dinner who were searching for a lost little boy in the Oregon Mountains.
the following is an excerpt from his sermon.
"Think on these things
The Value of your life does not necessarily depend on the length of it because there is more to life than length. Life has depth and breadth; therefore, one man may live more in his forty years than another would in one hundred years.
Live as long as you can. Some people will have to live long in order to live much, for they have shortened their lives by being too slow to begin..."
