I have had classic cable here since August. When I first got it, I got the 12.99 a month deal for 3 months. Long story short, its not 54.99 plus tax a month. This is NOT digital cable, this is regular cable with a short list of channels.

Mom called and wanted cable at her place, she recently remodelled my brothers garage into her apartment, he has direct tv, she doesnt want that. I was looking around for options for her, from dish, directtv, and our cable company, and decided to switch myself. lol...

44.99 a month for 180 channels, vs 54.99 for about 75 channels.. I did order her new cable installation for her house, but changed mine lol.... They'll be here on Tuesday afternoon to install my dish and 3 receivers. I got the DVR for the living room, not sure how that thing works, but we'll have to explore that!

I had direct tv at my X's house, he still has it, and except for severe snow storms, his tv is okay. Hopefully I'll be happy!

I think you'll love it, I never have problems with the snow it only really big Thunder storms that knock mine down and that usually only for about 5- 10 minutes at the worst. I love my DirecTv wont go back to cable.

Have to agree. I find DirecTV much better than our local cable provider. It does go out on occasion, but, then again, so did the cable.

And TiVO? When they tell you that it adds a whole new element to TV watching, they're not kidding. We got it simply because we were falling asleep before The Daily Show. Now, even DD6 uses it constantly. (After all, we have High School Musical TiVOed. What more could she want? :Pinkbounc )

consider paying the couple of bucks a month for insurance. it covers the boxes and the satelite. we found it more than paid for itself when one of the boxes died (after many years of use) and we had a major problem with the dish (after several hours the tech figured out that a recent wind storm had shook it enough to wedge a bunch of gunk underneath-once he pulled it down, cleaned it and adjacent area it worked like a charm).

we recently used their "movers advantage"-just packed up the boxes and they came out to set up a new dish and wire the rooms (free of charge).

i like that i always get a "live person" on the phone who can either answer my question or immed. transfer me to someone who can. their e-billing is pretty cool too, i get my bill each month via email and just pay on-line.

I just called them up about 3 weeks ago and told them I was thinking about switching to cable and they knocked $10/month off my bill. Now of course, I've been with them for almost 10 years (I own my current box and dish - no lease) so that might have had something to do with it but...

I did, 4.99 a month I think was the insurance. I figure, if nothing happens, oh well, but if 1 box dies, it will have paid for itself...

Can't wait till Tuesday night so I can sit here and complain because the channels are different LOL...

I am so sad. We have Direct TV and LOVE IT. We are moving at the end of the month and can't take it with us. Our new apartment faces North and East and it's in the middle of a high rise. Absolutly no S or SW view. So sad.. I love it. Now I need to fight with them to lower my $200 cancellation fee b/c I can't get the signal!

Our friends live across the street from our new place and they face S/SW but they ended up cancelling the Direct TV. This is S. Florida and they said every afternoon the storms got so bad that it would go out at least a few times a week.

Now our only option is the Dish Network b/c it's prewired into the building. I can't even get local cable. Though I can't imagine Dish will be better than Direct TV as far as going out.
