Just shy of 40" ... please help!

My DS literally grew 1 1/2 inches in a matter of three weeks last year right before our trip. I say hope for a growth spurt and if it doesn't come, then go back next year.

You should do everything you can to get your under 40" child on a ride where they have to be over 40". Put in gel inserts, wear heels, have them stretch, let their hair grow. The rules make no sense-your child is special. You can't handle saying no to your kid-what a mean parent.
After something happens to your kid, you can then sue WDW for not properly enforcing the height requirement. They will then be big enough next year, and you will have lots of money courtesy of WDW-assuming your child is alive and not disabled.

My DS was 39 3/4" when we went and they were very strict about the height requirement. They wouldn't let him on Soarin'( they actually took a stack of fast passes and stuck them ontop of his head to mat down his hair.) they also wouldn't let him on Test Track (that time they said he was golden at the front gate and marked his hand and before we got into the car they took off his hat and measured him again and said he was too short.)

why would you encourage this?
height requirements are there for safety.
am i missing something?

Honestly, I would just prepare your child for the fact that they may not get on every ride. That way they will not be so disappointed if you do run into CMs who takes their job seriously. There are many ways that people try to get around the height restriction. Disney is on to them. So you can try to put on bigger soled shoes or give them a poofy hair do, but remember your child still may not be able to ride.

Someone commented about "knowing their child best". It is not about knowing your child. Disney does not ask "can your child handle this ride?" They ask how tall your child is. They either are tall enough, or are not tall enough. How is that subjective? :confused3

take a chill pill.. we're talking about 1/4 " ....Seriously ...RELAX ...Have a DISNEY day
 Amy~

Please don't take chances with your child. The hight limitations are there for a reason. Trying to skirt them is not worth the risk.

My son is more than 39&3/4" barefoot and just over 40" in his shoes- will he be let on?

Wow - thanks for the warnings that this could get ugly. I was just wondering about 1/4" w/ her sneakers. I'm hoping for the growth spurt w/in 30 days....or perhaps the gel inserts.

We originally weren't going until next April when I knew she'd be able to do all those big kid rides....then circumstances changed and we're heading there the end of Sept. If she can get on the few she's really hoping to ride, that will be great, if not, I've already told her it will be close and she might not be able to ride so she's prepared for that alternative too. We'll just do them on our next trip, in another year or so.

Thank you to all who responded to my question w/ helpful suggestions and insight as to how the measuring is done.

We were in WDW earlier this month (Aug.). We noticed a lot of CM's making kids take off shoes that sported any bit of a heel to be measured!

So, good luck to those chancing it w/the thicker soled shoes and poufing up the hair ... but the CM's are onto you, prob. due to all the sneakiness going on here at Disboards. Did you forget that CM's visit and post here?!

Without meaning to be ugly and nasty ... if your kid gets hurt on a ride b/c you put them in jeopardy w/the gel inserts, high heels, poufed hair, etc. ... please do us all a favor and don't sue Disney for something you did. I don't want the prices to go any higher for awhile.

Get him a MOHAWK and he'll be all set !!!!
Nope -- won't work. They're quite good about getting to the top of the skull, not the top of the hair.

BTW -- I knew you were joking ... but had to put that b/c you know someone will consider doing just that!
