Long story short.

I had problems with my current land line provider so cancelled my contract etc.

The following day I started browsing online for another company, deals etc for land line and broadband.

Came across I big branded company ( won't name then, as don't believe they are aware). Browsed online putting landline number in to see what speed I could get for Internet. Decided to go ahead with the offer, but knowing me and my odd behaviour :thumbsup2 (don't do anything online) lol :thumbsup2

I decided to sign up in the store.

Anyhow I will get to the point :rotfl2::rotfl2:

Returned home, I received a telephone call from a male stati he is from the company I should signed up to, stating "I'm ringing as you were looking at broadband and landline on our site yesterday"
At first I thought it was genuine just chasing up possible order etc.

I stopped him and explained that i had signed up already, he then said "ok, I need to take details, so i can speed up the order" this is when I my brain starting to click in :rotfl2::rotfl2: they have all the details in store. I explained this to the gentleman, who then decided to place me onto another call taker!!!! Who stated he was the manager.!!

In the end I was told to hang up, and ringback the number they rang me on, I did this and was more determined that something was a drift here. I heard the answer machine stating that this company was trying to contact me and would ring back later!! :confused:Why would. Answer machine say this.

After numerous telephone calls to customer service who share my feelings. I thought something no right here.

They kept ringing and ringing for the rest of the evening I just ignored the calls.
This continued the following day, however this time i decided to answer and spoke with a male who forgot he had spoke with me the previous day.
He tried again to get my bank details, until I said look i have been in store and contacted the customer service team who agree that you don't need my details.:confused: the male then said abruptly well yesterday your order had not gone through but has now then hung the phone up.

Just shows the lengths people will go.
Always be careful guys :):thumbsup2

aww how bad are some people
I have some of these strange phonecalls always asking for a Christine Jones and i tell them no one by that name is on this number. They then say well we can help you blah blah, bank details. I just hang up on them now but they drive me mad.

I know so frustrating, inept saying to him, i don't discuss bank sort codes etc by telephone, and more so when you have rang me. I don't know who you are. He though by stick another man on phone to say he was manager made a difference. I repeated several times that makes no difference to me I have no idea eho you are.

Gosh, I bet a lot of people would have fallen into that trap of confirming details if they had just set up a contract with the "same company" earlier that day!

Well done for remaining vigilant :) :thumbsup2

Yea agreed well done, i worry for some of the older generation. I mean some are perfectly fine but i know when my grandma was here, if someone sounded official and asked her for details she would of gave them.

That is a worry ... I know my Mum gave out her bank details to a "charity" once over the phone. I was gobsmacked and I made her cancel her card and everything. The older generation are definitely not as scam aware. I think I put the fear into her after that and she won't give anything out over the phone now.

My best mate is in telesales and it does sound like something they would do. The problem with jobs like that is they heavily rely on sales...so thye get desperate if they know you are willing.

I think he gets something around the£80 p/w mark, and £40 a sale......but if he makes 5 sales a week he gets £160 basic + commision, so they get deseprate.

Although, that doesnt sound right that they would keep ringing and ringing and ringing when you'd already signed up!?

Yeah, he kept pestering after he was aware I signed. He started to quote me like he was telling me first. I had to jump in and say I've just told you that!!

And hang up abruptly when I informed that I contacted customer services and visited store I signed up in.

I understand telesales they tend to be more polite :cool1:

It's not just the older generation who would fall for that - I would probably have confirmed my details!

I remember someone phoning to say my card had been used fraudulently and I confirmed everything over the phone as I was so rattled. It turned out that my card had been used fraudulently to top up a mobile phone.
