Well... after our backyard camping trial, which went fairly well, we learned that 6 people in two tents on rainy nights with no solid roof over their heads will be exhausted beyond vacation limits if we go too long.

So, Tuesday night through Sunday morning is our new resort booking. We will break camp Sunday morning, then head over to Trail's End for sunday brunch before taking off for our AirBnB condo for 2 nights. We will do Universal from there. I think this will make our trip home a lot easier.

Good thing to do a "dry run" with the tent, right? :) Your new plan sounds perfect. Have a great time!

So on your "Dry Run" did it get "Wet" outside? I ask because for me, the pitter patter of rain on the tent it relaxing (as long as it's not crazy windy too.) That said, I am sure it would drive my wife crazy (She is not a camper... She is a GLAMPer)

It was blowing so hard, thunder, lightning. It was tough! And we did 4 nights and called it quits. It felt like a week. And our trip is in the rainiest month of the year. Wheeee! I think it'll be fun.

Sounds like a good plan. The good thing about rain at the Fort, is that it is "typically" for short periods in the afternoon. Now short can mean 10 minutes or 4-5 hours. Unless it is hurricane season and you get really unlucky, it is unusual to have complete all day rain outs.

Since you're going to Universal at the end of the trip, I think packing up camp when you aren't rushed is a great plan. When I tent camped, I always hated the last day routine of breaking camp, packing everything up and then jumping in the car for a long trip home. Your plan is much better.

Now it is so much easier, just pull in the slides, hook up and go.

Chris don't forget to drain and flush out the Black water and Grey water tanks Disconnect and secure the electric line disconnect cable TV line, lower free TV antenna and satellite TV dish. Raise the levelers, secure the awning, Pack up and secure all the extras that we all somehow bring, set up and rarely use. Make sure every one has made a potty stop so they are ready for road and that one coming 5 min after you pull through the gate. Confirm your reservation for 2 weeks down the road so you can do it all again

Yikes! My 'dry run' would have ended instantly!! You are 'really' determined to make a go of it - I applaud you!!
You have a brave family! o_O

Our 'first' & 'only' foray into tent camping was years ago when our dd was 2 1/2 & I was pregnant with ds. Dd got sick, it rained, and a bear got into our open trunk (forgot to close it!!!). This was in the Smoky Mtns. ---All in one night!--- Moved into motel - End of tent story!!!

After that it was trailers, and now motorhomes - the 'only' way we'll ever 'camp', but we love it. No roughing it for us :D

The best of luck and pixiedust: for your upcoming trip and hopefully you'll have mostly dry weather (but will be hot and humid).

Well on the new one, I would need to disconnect electric, we usually don't hook up to cable, new one has small antenna, no crank up. Leveling system is automatic, flush tanks and off we go. Speaking of which, I have to go prune some trees so I can park ours.
