Just saw dog/Dolphin excursion in Key West

I just saw the neatest thing on Animal Planet. This dolphin excursion on Key West has a choc. lab that scouts for the same pod of Dolphins, then when she finds them, swims with them and the guests. The dolphins actually play with this dog! Maybe I think its so great because I also have a choc. lab (Tootsie Roll), but has anyone heard of this, Shirley maybe? Dogs name was Pieces, and boat was the Mary C I think.

I was interested by your post and did some research. I found the company (Dolphin Watch) and called them ((305)294-6306). The man who answered the phone said that the Animal Planet piece was 4 years old. Unfortunately, the chocolate lab has passed away. (We also had a chocolate lab and would have loved to have seen this too.)

Hey there,
As it was reported, yep it did happen but the famous little 4 legged star has passed away - (will not go further on that) - it was interesting, but frown upon by officials for numberous reasons -
I did know of it, but knew it had come to a stop - this really isn't unusual for Key West pets - many of the families from long ago experienced the same - at that time it was not scrunized upon - but I do understand why they do now -
Thanks for the update - I had forgotten about this and it was glad to remember back when.

Very sad to hear this. I don't want to know what happened, but this guy really seemed to love his dog very much. "Part of the family, like a daughter" etc. Just thought it was neat, and didn't really think about problems for dolphins or the dog.
