Just saw Devil Wears Prada! (spoiler)

I just saw it yesterday with DH and DD, and they both loved it as well! DH isn't exactly a chick flick kinda guy, but he still really enjoyed it.

I had just finished reading the book last weekend and was pleasantly surprised by the movie. It wasn't like they tried to recreate the book, but the movie had the same spirit as the book. Miranda was far more sympathetic and redeemable in the movie, but since it was Meryl Streep playing her, that was okay in my book. :thumbsup2

I'm digging up this old thread because I finally finished the book and I finally got to see the movie. Pretty neat to do both in the same week, BTW.

I did not enjoy the softer movie-Miranda. I really looked forward to evil book-Miranda embodied in Meryl Streep. She could have pulled it off SO well, but the movie begged too much sympathy for the character. And she smiled. AND worst of all, there was way too much give and take interaction with the assistants. What was so hilarious in the book was the rattling of instructions, finished with "that's all" :rotfl2: . Book Miranda wouldn't have listened to any feedback.

I did like the turning point in the movie better than the book. In the book, Ahndrea ;) simply dropped the F bomb (remember: "F. U. Miranda F. U.") which left me thinking :confused3 :confused3 , what kind of solution is that? The movie mixed that up a little bit, but again, I disliked that Miranda redeemed herself.

While they sexied up Andrea, I was happy they also cleaned her up a little - no smoking & drinking. Still, Anne Hathaway does not = family movie anymore.

Anyway, both book and movie were a ton of fun. I love a good character - that's the only reason I even picked up a book like this. Wasn't disappointed.

I want to read the book now since I just finished another great one by Harlan Coben.

Just another OT here.... since you mentioned Harlan Coben... which book did you just read ?? I love his books but have only gotten hold of a few to read.

I've read all of them except for the Myron Bolitar series (tried getting into Deal Breaker but couldn't).

I read two of his this summer: just one look and the innocent (my lastest one)! But gone for good is excellent (first of his I read), tell no one, and no second chance are also great reads.

He has a new one out (promise me) that is part of the Myron Bolitar series so when it hits mass market, I'll give that series another shot!

This is one time that I disagree. I didn't care for the book. It was a huge disappointment for me. The "Andrea" character whined too much in the book and the abuse went on and on and on. The movie was just more "fun."
I agree!

I thought Andy in the book was a spoiled brat and she got what she deserved. How on earth do you not notice all that is going on around you with your best friend and roommate?

She was a little witch in the book and she made me hate the book.

I admit, I liked the book version of Miranda more, but still she was okay.

I liked Andy far better in the movie. She seemed like a lady who had class but got caught up in her job. I much preferred her there.

I thought the book kind of stunk. The selfish bratty character so turned me off! I had no sympathy for her in the end and was glad he life turned to crap. From what I read about the author, it was just a retelling of her life and I don't feel a bit sorry for her. I actually wished her friend would've found a real one who would've been there for her when she needed it... not two or three days later.
