Just Ride the Monorail? (no parks)

In October, we will arrive late Friday afternoon with a member of our group who has never been to Disney (She just turned 60!). We don't want to use a ticket/day for this day. We're going to DTD for dinner and shopping. We are staying onsite. Later that evering, can we just ride the monorail around the World? For example, park at the Contempory and hop on the monorail. I think I'm right in saying that we don't need a park ticket to ride the monorail and we can park for free at other Disney hotels if we are staying onsite at another hotel?

Any thoughts on this? I was hoping we could catch a glimps of fireworks at MK somewhere outside of the park.

Um - might not be able to park for free at other resorts (sometimes they crack down on it as people will park at the resorts then take monorail to MK)

HOWEVER - you can ask nicely and most guards might let you.

Or you can park at the TTC and take the monorail from there to EPCOT and back...or around the resort/MK loop.

But you are correct - you don't need to "burn a day" to ride the monorail.

No, you don't need a park ticket to ride the monorail. You could park at GF, CR or Poly and hop on there.

You can ride the monorail without a ticket, both the EPCOT one and the resort one. Here's a suggestion:

park at the Poly, if you want to catch the monorail you can from there. If you want to transfer to the EPCOT one you get off at the transportation and ticket centre and switch trains.

However, you can see Wishes from the Poly beach and you can watch the Electric Water Pagent from the Poly beach. Both nice things to do. You can also catch a boat from the Poly to the GF or MK. You can then catch another boat to the CR and WL and FW. Lots of nice things to do without going into the park for the evening.

Why not take the bus from your resort? That way, she'll get a feel for the immensity of the property. You can start at Epcot to TTC to MK or vice versa. You can catch the fireworks and the electrical water pageant from the beach at the Poly, the GF or the Contemporary. Have a great day!

You CAN ride the monorails for no extra charge. We did this on our last trip. I was with a groups of friends--many of which had never been to Disney--so I wanted them to ride the Monorail. We did it, and had no problems. I think it's a great idea.

I also recommend taking a bus from your resort, unless you aren't staying on property. We did this a couple of years ago. Drove to ASMu, unpacked and rode the bus to Ticket and Transportation center and just rode the monorail. It was a first for boys and hubby and we had a great time.

You absolutely can do this - and you can park at the resorts if you are staying at another resort - and even if you aren't because you can eat at the resorts so you may not have a Kona Cafe (as an example) PS so they have nothing at the gate to check, just tell them you are having a drink or apps or something, they will let you park for three hours.

We do this a lot. If you want to really wow her, ask to pilot a monorail. You will have good luck getting a shot at this at the Contemporary. This is where we usually do it from.

We do this all the time. The kids like to monorail "surf". We get in the last car and most of the time have the whole thing to ourselves. While the monorail is moving we stand up without holding on to anything and try not to lose our balance or grab anything to steady ourselves. I know, silly, but the kids love it.

Although the pageant generally follows the schedule below, check with the Guest Services Desk at your Magic Kingdom Resort for times during your stay. Inclement weather can cause cancellation of the pageant.

Polynesian Resort -- 9 p.m.
Grand Floridian -- 9:15 p.m.
Wilderness Lodge -- 9:35 p.m.
Fort Wilderness -- 9:45 p.m.
Contemporary Resort -- 10:05 p.m.
Magic Kingdom -- 10:20 p.m. (only during extended MK park
hours)

Note that when the Magic Kingdom Fireworks are scheduled for 9 p.m., the Electrical Water Pageant runs about 7-20 minutes later.
