from WL.
Let me start with the heat...it was HOT. Swimming wasn't even cooling.
Luckily some of the showers actually cooled off everything at night.
EMH in the evening is OK and lines are shorter but not that much. It was nice walking around the parks late, though.
WL was OK. Got upgraded to a Courtyard view from Woods view. I had requested bunkbeds several months ago and right before leaving, I sent a fax. They did not have any at check-in (CM said WL was sold-out) but offered to change us the next day. CM checked with room assigner and they found an upgraded room for us that day instead.
In general everything was OK and upkeep is good but I think a refurbishment may be in order shortly. They were doing some outside work while we were there. Minor things like room paint, bathroom grouting, etc., needed.
I am still amazed at some things. I saw someone with a hugh oversized mug from somewhere unknown filling up at the soda station.
Food at Roaring Forks really needs to be addressed as to more variety. It seems, like they are doing at the parks, they are trying to force people to eat in the sitdown restaurants more often or pay higher prices to do counter service.
The bus to MK was a wlelcome addition. At closing. we had about 20 people waiting for the bus and there must have been more than 200 waiting for the boat. We were back at the hotel while others were still waiting for the boat. Also, we used the bus to get to MK and used MK transportation to other hotels, etc. This cut down on the number of shared stops.
Any questions?
PS: Soarin' was incredible; Light, Motors, Action was good but nothing outrageous. (I felt for the people who wound up sitting in the only sunny section of the bleachers)

We are staying at the WL for the first time in January - can't wait. How long did it take to get to MK by bus?

Kristi

What a good suggestion to use the MK bus to get to another resort! I will be sorely missing the TTC bus which we used to get the monorail to Epcot. It was much quicker than the afternoon bus ride!

Now I guess I can take the bus to MK. Hop a bus to the Boardwalk and boat to the International Gate at Epcot. I know it seems like a lot but I swear it has to be faster.

Any other suggestions that worked for you?

Glad you had a good trip, despite the heat!

I hope that the heat during the first 2 weeks in September is alittle on the cooler side. By looking at the weather for the pervious years it's been all in the 90's and then with record breaking heat lately, I think that we are in trouble.

I'm glad overall that you still had a good time at Disney.

Stanley,
We were right there with you guys... and boy was it HOT!!! The pool was so warm it was not even helpful. I found the showers by the pool the only relief.

I agree with your take on WL. We had moldy wallpaper and quite a bit of dust in our room. I enjoyed the stay and would consider it again. But, I would also look at the others.

I notice you have stayed at several moderates. How do they compare?

to answer questions so far;
The bus took about 5 to 10 minutes by the time we parked.

Compared to the moderates the WL is nice because it is roomy and you can hang out in many places and still be in the hotel. Also, the pool area is larger and you have the boat, watermice rentals, etc. We originally liked the WL when the girls were younger because we could send them off on their own. With many of the moderates you have to go to the food court, etc. Also, other than your room, if you want to hang out some place the options are limited. The lobby is always abuzz with activity.
Of all the moderates, we liked POR French Quarter best. Nice intimate resort with great transportation (shared with Riverside but you are first on and first off).

Not too many tips for WL but we always ask for bunkbeds and have been upgraded most of the time without asking.
The boat is nice when it is not crowded.

Thanks for the great report...when did they add the bus to MK? When we stayed at WL a couple of years ago...i hated the boat...waited a really long time for the boat..and I wish they had a bus to MK. Is that something new?
thanks..amy

I don't know when the bus was added. It wasn't there last year. I have a funny feeling though, that it is just for the busy seasons since the sign at the bustop was not a permanent sign as it had a cover, over the old one, with MK printed on it.
