Just returned after a 10 day trip. I know there is much debate as to whether the quality of service and food has suffered and so I thought I would add my thoughts.

We ate at several of our favorite restaurants. The table service restaurants include Le Cellier, Kona (lunch and dinner) , Boma, Liberty Tree (lunch), Coral Reef, Garden Grill, Rose and Crown, and Concourse Grill.

First we noticed that a few restaurants required diners to order all courses at the beginning of the meal. I did not like this. I felt like doing so was like ordering at a fast food restaurant while sitting down. The restaurants this occurred at include Concourse Grill and Liberty Tree.

Adding to the feeling of being in a fast food restaurant was the speed of each meal. Appetizers were brought out in a matter of minutes (usually less than 3). The appetizers were quickly followed by the entree and dessert. Dinners which usually served as a time of rest and enjoyment now last less than 45 minutes. I remember sitting and enjoying a meal with conversations with the wait staff. Now its here's your order - EAT and GET OUT!

The food has suffered. It seems every year more and more restaurants get moved off of our "must do" list and onto our "don't do" list. After this trip we will give a much deserved rest to Concourse Grill, Rose and Crown, and Coral Reef. Some restaurants were okay and barely passed "will we do this again?" standard. These were Liberty Tree and Kona. (Although our waiter at Kona for lunch- Kai was fantastic)

Exceptions to this were Boma and LeCellier. Our dining experience - service and food - in both places was excellent.

Now the counter service meals. I was pleasantly surprised with several CS meals. They include Everything POP, Tangerine Cafe, Wolfgang Puck Express, Earl of Sandwich.

This is the first time we participated in the meal plan. Our experience leads us to believe that the counter service is comparable and sometimes better than the table service restaurants. In addition, some of the food looks the same at both levels of restaurants. For example the cheese cake at Concourse grill looks and tastes very similar to the cheese cake at several counter service restaurants.

As a result, next visit we probably won't do the dining plan. We will eat more at counter service restaurants.

I agree about not doing the Dining Plan next time. We're glad we tried it once. We sampled more TS restaurants than we would have if we weren't on DDP. But, we also found the quality of the food and service weren't so great in some places (Concourse being one of them). Next time, we'll book a few TS places (Le Cellier for sure!) and eat CS or just snacks the rest of the time. Sounds like your experience was similar to ours.

We have done the DDP plan several times - and it is a value if you can eat all the food.

Our problem was that we couldn't eat that much food. After about a week, all I could think about was a treadmill.

It sounds like the only differentiation between TS and CS is price these days.

Depending on this upcoming trip I may not do the DDP again if I have to pay for it. Mainly because I will try and get in more relaxation and less worry about where and when I have to eat. I do love the DDP though for the fact that we got to try places we wouldn't have normally tried the last few trips. It'll help to plan on what I want to spend my $$ on here on out.

It just saddens me that so many are posting about the quality of the meals and the service. I hope that these things change or they may have a flop with the DDP sooner then we think. I have been lucky enough not to notice too much except @ Tony's this last trip--but I had never been there before so I had nothing to compare it to, and the first trip (paying for DDP that trip) @ WCC. Our waiter had zero personality and didn't even have "fun" with us. I didn't care if he was RUDE as that would have been something (since antics can vary greatly there) but nope, nothing. Very dry and nonattentive. Hmmm, makes me wonder.

We did the DDP in December and had to pay for it. I think that the good thing about it was that we got to eat at places that we normally wouldn't. But for us, it was way too much food, before we left we thought we would easily use all of the options but found out that we weren't eating as much. And, it always seemes that we had to be somewhere for a reservation, which cut down on our time in the parks.

Thanks, Oh Mickey, for sharing your thoughts. Last year was our third trip to LTT and I definitely felt more rushed and even "abandoned" by our server near the end of the meal than on previous visits. Time of day, DDP and upcoming FDP all impact, I'm sure. This trip we will be trying something different - at the kids' request!

The DTD food venues do not see nearly the traffic that the parks do. Maybe this is part of the reason the food seemed better? Not an excuse for poor service or quality, but I think it was bound to happen over time with the popularity of DDP.

I sure hear you about the uncomfortability of being asked to place your entire order from the get-go. At LTT, I guess it's not as much of an issue because of the family style buffet service - limited choices, but I think I'd be ticked if they did that at a steakhouse.

And you are so right about the "same" food at different restaurants - lol - but what did we think? That each restaurant at an operation the size of WDW was baking their own???:rotfl: I have to laugh a bit when people write about the best ribs, burgers or whatever - in most cases it's all the same throughout - cooking method and a few added toppings, seasonings, give or take!! For me, that Peco's Bill burger tastes awesome because I am tired, hungery and hot! It's the same burger at Donald's in AKL but the entire atmosphere of the park is different, it's 11:45 AM and though it tastes fine - Peco's wins!!

The good news is that though we've been fortunate enough to try many of the restaurants, we have many more to go! Looking forward to our upcoming trip!

Thank you for sharing your thoughts!!!!

Did you hear that popping sound? My bubble just burst!!!!:lmao: :rotfl: :lmao:

I think at lunch it's actually an a la carte menu.

DH and I were just discussing this and, personally, I think we'll say "we haven't decided yet" to prolong it if we'd like. Sometimes we are in a rush too with a 2 yr old.

I don't understand "why" as I can look at the pizza and know it is the same thing at Roaring Forks, Pizzsafari,Pinochio and other places, BUT having eaten at all those places(and others I forget the names of) I can tell you the pizza is cooked better or tastes better at some places over the others. Roaring Forks was the best(consistently), that MGM one was the worst
I bet the steaks are the same at many of the restaurants, but explain to me why Cellier's is better than the rest?

The same food may be cooked differently at different resturants, a poor chef can riun a good expensive meal, a good chef can save a cheap meal with poor ingedients.

If I am asked for all courses I will politely ask to order dessert later as I do not know what I want, hopefully that shoulld not cause any issues. This was not happening last September.

I totally agree about CS being almost as good as TS! With Earl's, Wolfgang Puck's and some good choices in the parks, you can have a great meal OOP without leaving WDW 20 pounds heavier due to the amount of food on the DDP!! Last trip we only have 2 TS meals and did the rest CS. We had a much more relaxed vacation then when we did the TS since we could eat when/where/what we wanted without having to make reservations and worry about credits.

I find it interesting that you thought the food came out too fast. A post I read over the weekend complained that the meal took too long.

Maybe just different opinions of how long a TS meal should take?

We have a 2yr old, sign us up for any restaurant that gets food to the table in less than 3 minutes!
