We just returned yesterday (12/14) from our annual December trip. This was probably the worst trip in many years because of the weather. Rain on Monday through mid-day Tuesday and rain again Thursday through early Friday. At least it did not rain for MVMCP on 12/10 as had been forcasted.

We had a terrible experience at check-in at AS Movies. The cast member informed us that our room was in the Dalmatians section, however our reservation was for a preferred location. After bringing this to her attention, she checked her montior and said that was not correct. Their system indicated our reservations were for a standard location. She telephoned someone for a few minutes and then said we will credit your account for the extra $10.00 a night. I told her "no", our reservations are for a preferred location and I want the Fantasia section. I then gave her the reservation which clearly stated preferred. She then asked me "who made this reservation" and my response was "how should I know the person's name, it was someone at CRO". She then got back on the phone and read off my reservation number. After several minutes, she hung up and said "sir, if we change you to Fantasia, I will have to charge you a higher rate" to which I replied "No you will not, I have already paid the higher rate." At this point I am thinking the heck with this, we'll stay somewhere else! She then tells me that she will have to issue me a new key and needs the key back. Well, she never gave me the key. Anyway after 20 minutes, we finally have a room in the Fantasia section. Her last comment to me was "I hope you are happy now".

Our room was in the Fantasia Building with the brooms on the side, overlooking the pool. This was a very nice location, however I don't know if it was worth the experience we had to go through to get it.

After two days, we transferred over to the Beach Club. No problem at all here. We checked in about 12:30 and our room was ready. As already mentioned in a previous post, we were assigned a recently renovated room on the 2nd floor. We were in room 2641 which was one of the best locations we have had in all of our many years of staying at the Beach Club. It had a very large balcony and had an unobstructed view of Crescent Lake.

For those of you heading down to the Beach Club within the next several weeks, the quiet pool is down for rehab. You can still use the hot tub located next to the quiet pool however it is pain to get to it as most of the first floor is now closed for rehab. You have to go through the main door and walk around to the far side of the resort. We used the quiet pool and hot tub at the Villas, much closer walk.

Another change is that Beaches & Cream is no longer open for the quick breakfast. Coffee, juice, and a small selection of danish is offered at the Rip Tide Lounge next to Cape May. This is somehwhat of an improvement as you do not have to walk all the way to Beaches for coffee but the food selection is not as expansive as was offered at Beaches.

Any specific questions, let me know!

Thanks for the report!

I can't believe they wouldn't honor your reservation, when you had it with you:mad:
I'm glad you stood up to get what you paid for!

We will be staying at BC next week. I saw pics of the new rooms and they look great. I don't like to make room requests(except for no-smoking). We usually just take what we are given and have only been disappointed once-at AKL--the room was WAY in the back of the resort.

At, YC in June, we had the first room off the elevator--which we loved! At, WL we had a view of the castle! At CBR, we got a corner room with 2 windows! At POFQ, we got the first room on the first floor in Building 3. It took about 30 seconds to get to the food court!

Hopefully, our luck will hold out:D

Thanks for the review! I've stayed in 2643 and you are right, it is a great location! :) It is very surprising to hear about the change in the quick service at Beaches and Cream. All the more reason that this resort really needs a 24 hour quick service location. I'm glad you had a great stay at the BC! It is one of my favorites. :)

I don't think this is such a good thing personally. Where is one suppose to sit down and eat their bagel or cereal?? The Rip Tide certainly isn't big enough for a crowd. And what does this mean for those staying at the Yacht Club, is the lounge over there open in the a.m. now too?? And why couldn't they open The Rip Tide AND Beaches and Cream in the morning?? Why do they always have to get rid of something? Why can't they just add??

We are going in 12 days. I hope B&C is open for the morning, at least they have booths and toasters.

Heidi: People were sitting all around the lobby of the BC eating their danish or bagels. You are right as there are only a few tables in the Rip Tide. The same is true over at the Yacht Club. A small assortment of items is offered at the Ale & Compass Lounge (I think this is the correct name). We walked over to the Yacht one morning just to see if their lounge was offering anything different from the BC. The YC lounge was offering the same assortment of items as the BC. This seems to be a permanent change. The resort newspaper (Tide Tribune) they provide at check-in no longer indicates that Beaches & Cream offers Breakfast. Breakfast hours have also been removed from the operating hours which are posted on the door of the restaurtant. I wonder if this is an attempt by Disney to prompt guests to eat breakfast at Cape May or Yacht Club Galley, thereby spending more money. If you want something more substantial than is offered at the lounges, this would be your only choice (expect walking over to the Boardwalk Bakery).

Please post when you return from your trip. I would be interested in learning if Beaches has returned to offering breakfast.

Thanks for the good review and update.

If you could answer a question? I thought the pool (stormalong bay) was not scheduled to undergo rehap until Jan 3rd? I recieved a letter from Disney stating that. I was surprised to hear that you stated it is now undergoing rehap. Is the pool still open? The slide still working?
Thanks

It is not Stromalong Bay that is being rehabed, but the quiet pool which is located on the far end of the resort near the Epcot entrance. There was a partition up around the entire pool. You could see through a portion of the enclosure and the pool was drained. I am not sure how long the quiet pool was to be down. It did not appear that anyone was working on the pool during our stay.
