Well first off let me say that I as well as my parents are BCV fans but no rooms were available there! I did try to go to SSR with a real open mind though.

We checked in at 11:00 knowing full well that our room may not be available. I had asked for non-smoking Congress park when I made my reservation and was very happy to be told I received it. My parents were staying an extra night after I left and only wanted to be in a studio that night since they were leaving very early the next morning, so we asked for a 2 bedroom lock off and had hoped to be able to just lock off the 1 bedroom portion for the last night. The person checking us in could not find the extra night in the studio anywhere in her computer. (My parents had left the confirmation in the car and went to get them) The girl had to go in the back and when she got back someone had found the reservation. So anyway, she then asked who is stay in 2423? I asked her "you mean the studio for the extra night and she said "oh yes". It was definately a slip as she was not supposed to tell us our room number and at the end of the conversation she gave us the card telling us our room was not ready and we should call to get our room number.

Well since we knew the number we decided to go check our our room location. It was very nice! There was a basket of towels and bedding ourside our room. So we walked around the entire resort and walked back by the room around 12:00 and the basket was gone and there was a sign on the door saying it was being cleaned. So around 1:00 I called and they told me the room was not ready yet! Okay well we decided to go to DTD and eat lunch and shop. I called around 3:00. They said the room was still not ready. Okay we walked and shopped more and returned to the resort around 4:00 and called again. Room still not ready. By now I am getting a bit angry. I pushed the issue a bit as check in time is 4:00 and she told me she would send someone up to check room. I waited by the door and no one came by at 4:30 I called again. Different person this time told me room not clean in computer but she would send a runner up to confirm if room was clean. Waited till 5:00 no runner. I called again. Different person. Tells me she will send runner up to see if room is clean. I decide just to use key and go in at about 5:15. Low and behold room is clean and probably has been since around 1:00. I call again at 5:30 and I get a different person who tells me my room is still not clean and she will send a runner up. I tell her that I have been told that a runner will come up since 4:00 and it is now an 1 1/2 later and no one has shown up. She tells me that I have never talked to her and her runner is on her way. She told me to wait on the phone with her. Her runner did show up and was surprised to find us in the room. I told her we had just decided to try it since the women who checked us in slipped and told us our number. She told me that she had to check on around 25 rooms that day so basically housekeeping is not doing their job and updating the computer with which rooms they have cleaned.

The room was okay in my opinion my mom was not thrilled with the cob webs in the corners of her room or the many black marks (like scuff marks) on the walls. The was also drips of some sort going down the walls in the studio room.

The view was beautiful and the decor and furnishing in the room is very nice.

I did tell my parents before we went about the exterior corridors so they were warned about that but I forgot to mention the lack of full service resturant. My step dad was not happy about this. He assumed that DVC resorts were in the deluxe category and should have a full service resturant. It didn't help that the two times we went to artists palette the service was very slow. (Apparently they had run out of bacon and had to go someone to get it????)

All in all it was a nice trip. I missed the walk to Epcot though and still prefer my BCV. For those who love DTD this would be a wonderful resort as it was only a 10 minute walk at a leisurely stroll.

wow sounds like the same problems we had. we went in early dec. & had the exact same problems checking in. we were the at 11am & our room was not cleaned & ready till 4:30. my wife was not happy at all 7 my kids were getting very cranky. i would bet it was the same thing. it was ready early but never updated i the computer. this problem needs to be fixed asap. i like the resort but when i go back & it happens again i doubt i will stay there again. but we did have a nice trip but for us it rained almost everyday (but 1).

how dissapointing....I worry more and more about my home resort

I have checked-into DVC rooms as early as 0830 and been issued keys for clean rooms... Anecdotes are just that, anecdotes.

That is disappointing. Sorry your check-in didn't go so hot.

However a good note is that they are making a sit-down restaurant. :)

Come back again and give it another shot sometime!

Really sorry to hear that. I've already stayed at SSR and didn't have any problems. I hope this is just an isolated incident.

I know how those Epcot resorts are Terry... :cloud9: I would have missed them too! Any chance you are heading back in April? ;)

Sorry about your rm problems. Sounds like you still had a good vacation.

Sorry about the delay getting into your room (computer mixup) and then the cobwebs/scuff marks. But honestly, I think I've read of similar stories in all the DVC resorts, so I don't think this is unique to SSR.

but I forgot to mention the lack of full service resturant. My step dad was not happy about this. He assumed that DVC resorts were in the deluxe category and should have a full service resturant.
All the DVC resorts are deluxe. Fortunately, SSR is set up so that it's such a nice stroll to DD and all the restaurants there. People who stay at BWV/BCV walk around the boardwalk, S&D and to Worldshowcase for dining, so I think it's a similar situation with SSR and the many dining options at DD that are just a short walk or boat ride away. It will be nice with the addition of a sitdown restaurant right at the resort though.
Glad u had a nice trip.

Your experience checking in at SSR was nearly identical to our experience checking into BCV last June. It's not only SSR that has an occasional slip up.
